The night before the shaft crashed through my transmission casing, I had told my family that we should be able to get at least 60,000 more miles out of this van since both the transmission and engine ran and sounded great. The very next day on my way home from work I heard this atrocious noise as I accelerated around a curve. As I entered town and turned at the stop light I heard this dreadful noise in the front end of my van. I pulled over to the curb as close as I could and parked it there. First I was told it could be rebuilt, if I could find a new casing for it. That was a joke! Every place I called said that every one of the transmissions had the casing smashed in. It was hard enough just to find a used transmission, since they are in big demand. My brother had the same thing happen to his 1999 Dodge Caravan, the pin that holds the shaft broke and the shaft slammed into the transmission casing. He called Chrysler and tried to get them to pay for his. It was no use. When he had his repaired he bought a $25.00 kit that Chrysler sells to keep the pin from breaking which allows the shaft to slip, until it finally smashes into the transmission. Shame on Dodge and Chrysler for continuing to manufacture Caravans with out that kit already in them!
