1997 Dodge Caravan gas on the inside of the car the consumer stated after he filled the gas tank, it quickly ran out. As the consumer was going back to the gas station, the vehicle caught on fire under the hood. The consumer was able to get out of the vehicle safely. The fire department came to put the fire out. The consumer was then informed the fuel rail had burst and came loose which caused fuel to leak, which caused the fire.
The contact owns a 1997 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated that the transmission and the O-rings on the fuel injectors are failing. Chrysler stated that the vehicle was not included in recall # 00V268000 (fuel system, gasoline:fuel injection system). The purchase date was unknown. The current mileage is 192,000 and failure mileage was 30,000.
FOIA request info re Chrysler minivan recalls initiated 1/25/02, engine and fuel line malfunctions that resulted in fires. Information request from consumers attorney. Attorney is pursuing a wrongful death claim for the consumer. Consumer burned to death in a vehicle wreck in 1997. Campaign id number : 03E053000. This recall only pertains to aftermarket replacement fuel filters and has no relation to any original equipment installed on Chrysler Town & Country, Plymouth Voyager, and Dodge Caravan minivans or any other products manufactured by DaimlerChrysler corporation.
There was a gas smell inside the cabin of the van upon starting the van or when the heat was on. There was a recall (00V268000) issued for the fuel injection system, but the VIN number was outside the remedy scope.

Got NHTSA recall notice 00V268000/ manufacturer's recall 895. Called to make an appointment, and dealer indicated there were no parts. Tried to contact dealer several times, but no return call.
There was recall 00V268000 on a fuel injection system. It was confirmed with manufacturer. However, recall did not involve this vehicle. With out warning a fire broke out, resulting in total vehicle damage.

While driving at 25 mph consumer noticed white smoke coming from tail pipe. Then, white smoke and flames were coming from under the hood. Consumer stopped car and turned ignition off. Consumer exited the car, and vehicle caught on fire. Consumer feels this may related to recall for fuel leakage. Consumer states vehicle was in shop for transmission problems on February 16th, 2001.
I have been seeking information regarding id # 00V26800, numerous E mails to daimler Chrysler have resulted in frustration, ref#8309811 ticket# 207346, I can't get them to answer questions regarding my vehicle, they say it is out of warranty! they say there was no media notification! it was in the usa today!I asked who determines what vans will be recalled and they don't answer. The recall clearly says 1995-1999. Can you please help?
Fuel injection delivery system leaks fuel from some of the sealing O-ring or from hair line cracks in thermostat fuel injection rail. The O-rings had ruptured on the fuel injection rail causing the fuel to run on to the valve covers and manifolds.
Driving along and the windshield wipers come on without notice. Also numerous times having to change out the fuel injection electrical parts. All of these have been told to us that they were not covered by the warranty. We have been told that there was a recall of the master electrical system under the hood of this model of car but we have never received any information of this situation. Please notify us if such a recal exists. We would be very appreciative of this information. We are affraid that it will cause the car to have an elecrical fire.
I feel this vehicle should have a recall on some of the problems it has. They are defenitely a major factor in safety. I hope these problems are fixed in the newer modles because most people purchase mini-vans for their family or company vehicle. Therefore, this particular vehicle I feel could probably fall under the lemon law. Or, manufactors are just making a big profit and are not considering the safety of their drivers. I would like to see them put their family in a vehicle with the problems mine has and quarantee their safety.
