- It's Probably The TPS - I had the same problem but lucked out one time with the check engine light staying on long enough for me to have it checked out. An auto parts store well check this for free. It ended up being my TPS ( throttle position sensor ). When you change this make sure you put a new throttle body gaset on it's only $2. The reason for changing the gaset is because when I took off the TPS I had to take off the throttle body where the gaset is to remove the two screws on the sensor and when you do that you need to put a new gaset on. Now for the TPS ( throttle position sensor ) it cost new about $50 but I got one at a junk yard for $10. I later ended up having to replace my camshaft sensor as well which was also only $10 at the junk yard or $45 new at an auto parts store. This part is easy to change and has only one bolt and a plug on it just under the distrubuator. I'm not saying that your camshaft sensor is bad but once again my car did the same thing as yours and I ended up having to chage both of this sensors. Overall the 2 parts and a new gaset cost me only $22 a course that's with the two sensors being bought at a junk yard and the new gaset.

At first it was only a hick-up. Engine service light goes on then off. Dealer said there was no code so they can't fix. After many months now the vehicle occasionaly spits and sputters for 5 minutes and then runs like nothing is wrong. Also notice that during these occasions it will kick on the service light but on the next spit and sputter will kick off the light. Also if the cruise control is on it will kick that off.
