After filling the gas tank I parked the said vehicle on an incline with the front of the vehicle facing downhill. As I exited the vehicle, I could smell gas. I looked under the vehicle and saw gas leaking from somewhere on top of the gas tank. I moved the vehicle to level ground and the gas stopped leaking. On 06/05/2000 I took the vehicle to elmhurst Dodge at which time they said the gas tank had a crack in it and would have to be replaced. The dealer also commented that they had made the same repair to three other vehicles the previous month and that the tanks were made out of plastic. The gas tank was replace under invoice #220957. Dealer also replaced the fuel tank locking ring (recall 845) under invoice #221121. Prior to 06/04/2000 I had smelled gas in my garage for over a year, not knowing it was coming from the vehicle.

My wife was driving with the kids in the car all of a sudden the van shut off luckily she was on our street I had a friend who is a license mechanic he came over.he checked for codes in the dash but revealed none. He then looked under the van to see the gas tank had collapsed at first he thought it was from the result of hitting something. We had it towed because it wouldnt start. He put it up on the rack to see the the straps were still in tact. He said that the gas tank had just plain collapsed. He then called the dealer to ask them if there was a recall on this item they said how many miles they proceeded to say 78000 the dealer said if there was about 40000 they would cover it. My mechanic buddy also said that there was a bulletin out on this problem but not enough complaints to make it a recall.the ironic thing is the gas tank is plastic so I had to pay $940 for repairs. I called daimler Chrysler and they gave me the run around!I am a little upset because my wife and kids could have been seriously hurt if the gas would have leaked out and ignited. Could you please help me.
