My wife was traveling about 40-45mph on a concrete surface, suddenly at this speed, the driver of a Hertz rental, 2015 Chevrolet Equinox LS, slams into the rear end of her car, forcing her to brake and sliding into the rear of a 2012 Dodge pickup. The seat belts did not restrain like they are suppose to, nor did the airbags deploy on her 2012 Dodge Caliber my wife was driving.
The safety features of her car, did not prevent her chest from hitting the steering wheel at an hard impact of 40-45mph from the rear collision that forced a hard impact to the rear bumper of the truck at the speed she was going. The Chevrolet rental had extensive damage to it's front, my wife's car had rear damage to the bumper that caused part of it's connection to the car's frame to bend at a 45 degree angle, the door gate crushed in, and the front bumper was pushed in all the way towards the radiator causing 'v' shape damage to the insides of the engine bumper parts. In other words, the bumper was slammed against a tow hitch without a tow ball, forcing it to push in the bumper's insides causing damage, and the bumper popped out.
At the speed of all vehicles and my wife's car being sandwiched, the airbags and seat belt should of worked. I ended up calling Dodge/Chrysler FDC folks, and now we await for them to send out a rep to see why these items mentioned, did not function properly. So, we are now having to get some quotes and wait and see what the FDC rep says. However, we had to get an attorney to represent my wife since she is suffering now some emotional and physical problems from her neck and lower back, as well her mental PTSD problem these failures caused. She has said to me, "no way am I getting back into that car." I don't blame her.
