We bought this Caliber and the first cold weather (I lived in northern NJ) I lifted the trunk to take out groceries and while taking out bags and hands full, the trunk failed and fell on my head, which caused a mild concession. I assumed it was because of the very cold weather. It did happen again and again and I was just mindful of the door. We moved to warmer weather and now it does not stay up at all. I have been checking to see if it was a recall, we did have another recall on this car. Just yesterday my husband was taking things out of car and the door came down and hit him in the head. This is a piece of junk and I should have complained before.
We did ask the dealer if it was on recall and he had said they could do nothing. Of course the car is paid off and it is falling apart as usual.
