CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2007 Dodge Caliber has all kinds of suspension problems at relatively low mileage: typically 40-50,000 miles.

The most commonly reported problems are with ball joints & control arms going bad. Tie rods & leaking struts are also reported failing in the same mileage range.

Unfortunately all the suspension problems means some owners only find out after they notice their tires are ruined.

We've given the 2007 Caliber our worst rating because these problems happen at such low mileage, & it involves a wide range of apparently defective parts. With most other cars, major suspension work is pretty rare under 50,000 miles.

broken suspension

Chrysler does not care. No one has died yet. Very serious. Dangerous. Drove on Xway all day. 10:00pm Control arm broke in a parking lot. Could not steer car. No control whats so ever of car. FCA Customer Claims Resolution Group Sent letter requesting Imagining the Event Data Recorder. Hired Bosch Engineering to use Crash Data Retrieval Tool. They don't know what they were checking. Did not have results to share with me. Airbags did not inflate. A waste of time and Money. However they cannot help me. At this point they may assist if I contact another Dealership to see if it can be fixed. {MAY ASSIST} they are able to tow the car all over the city. Have it checked. Say its a technical issue, but not fix the car. My car has been shacking rattling cross member replaced on the front with original control reinstalled. Rear was not replaced and was rusted when the front was done. Noted in a yearly inspection from the TSB. I can't understand this.

I checked this car out when I bought it two yrs ago. It showed nothing to indicate a problem of this magnitude. Now it's unsafe to drive. In two yrs it must have been rusting from the inside out. Also the dealer never told me about these issues...they are supposed to inspect and fix all issues that are a safety related.

broken suspension

My wife and I purchased a 2007 Dodge Caliber in November of 2013 at a dealership in Wooster, Ohio. The vehicle had about 23,000 miles at the time. The vehicle has had no problems other then routine maintenance and we maintained the vehicle very well with regular oil changes and general maintenance. In February 2014 we moved to Florida and had no problems until Sunday,October 23, 2016. On this day we were setting at a stop light waiting to make a left turn. As we were making the left turn we experienced a sudden jolt and the vehicle would not move forward or backward. We exited the vehicle to find that the drivers side wheel had fallen off of the frame and pulled the axle out of the transmission. I visually examined the damage and saw that it looked like the frame was excessively rusted and had broken causing the wheel to fall off.The car only has 56,000 miles so we were shocked. We had the vehicle towed to the Lakeland Dodge Dealership. On Monday,October 24, 2016,We went to the dealership to find out what they found. We were told that it would cost approximately $4,600 to fix the problems (subfram was excessively rusted and failed causing the wheel to fall off causing other damages). We talked with the service manager and she said she could call Dodge/Chrysler headquarters to find out if they could help but it wiill take a couple days to get and answer. I asked if we could get a loaner car until a determination could be made and was told that ther was none available. After several calls to the dealer to find out if they received an answer from Chrysler, my wife spoke with the mechanic at the dealership on November 3, 2016 and she was told that Chrysker was considering buying the car back because of the excessive damage. After several more calls to the dealership and being told that they still hadn't heard anything from Chrysler, I went to the dealership on November 7, 2016 and spoke with the General Manager at the dealership. He told me there was nothing they could do until Chrysler made a determination. He said that I could call Chrysler ( Dodge Owner Assistance ) directly at 1-800-423-6343 and that might help speed the process up. So I called Chrysler and spoke with a gentleman that had to pull up the file and do and investigation. After about an hour he told me that a final determination had to be made by upper management and there was nothing he could do to help, including giving an authorization for a loaner car. On November 11, 2016 we finally received and answer. The Reginal Manager from Chrysler was at the Lakeland Dealership and determined that Chrysler would replace both the Front and Rear Subframes, including labor, but would not pay for and parts that were damaged because of the Subframe Failure. On November 14, 2016, I went into the Lakeland Dealership to find out what the repair would cost me since Chrysler was going to replace the Subframes (including labor). I spoke with the Service Manager and was told that it would now cost me approx.-$4,000. I said that was unacceptable. I then asked for any documentation that they had and was told that they could only give me a copy of their estimate which I got. I then called Chrysler once more to explain my situation and was told again that they will only cover the Subframes and labor. I then called several lawyers to find out if there was anything I could do. On November 21, 2016 we spoke with a lawyer and he said that it appears that we have a case, however he does not do this type of issue. He referred us to another lawyer. He also said that we should request documentation showing the determination that Chrysler had made. On December 2, 2016 I called Chrysler to request documentation showing the determination that was made on our vehicle and was told that they do not have any documentation other then phone call notes. We met with anothe lawyer and explained our situation and he said that there is a good possibility that if we went to court it may take up to a year and the determination may not be worth it. He was going to investigateother cases and get back to us with his contract information and expenses. On December 12, 2016 I called the lawyers office to findout why we hadn,t heard from them and they were busy and would call back. I never got a call back. I then called Chrysler again to find out whom I would summons to go to small claims court and was told the my lawyer would have to contact their legal department and she could not give me that information. December 13, 2016 - I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. WHAT TO DO ??????????? Maybe Newscenter 8 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After the Valarie we said we'd never buy another dodge but here we are with a Dodge Caliber that is worse than the Valarie. I don't know how Dodge can let a car with so many problems come out of their factory. I could say more but why bother, neither the dealer or the manufacturer cares.

Bought this P.O.S. last year. Wanted a 4 cyl. for better fuel economy. This car has been nothing but a THORN IN MY SIDE thus far!! This is my husband's every day driver. I took the vehicle to the grocery store and noticed that when I would hit a bump the front end would "dance" and I would lose control of the steering. When I got to the store, I got under the vehicle and noticed the driver side strut was leaking. Both struts needed to be replaced. I am working on the back ones now. I DO NOT trust MOPAR parts!!

May 2011- had to replace struts

July 2011-46,673 miles, control arm & tie rods: my mechanic found the problem. Took it to a Chrysler dealership and they argued there was nothing wrong with the car. My mechanic had to tell them where to look for the problem (not a good thing) and they FINALLY agreed there was a definite problem. There were are so many complaints about this problem that Chrysler is doing "courtesy repairs". They WILL NOT recall the car.

December 2011-49,978 miles, premature wearing of the right side ball joint. Now I have to have the same dealership "diagnose" the current ball joint problem (here we go again with no problem) before Chrysler will even consider "helping" pay for the repair. UNREAL....it's an ongoing problem with these cars!

We have just bought this car used. It passed safety and cert. I thought they had replaced a strut mount as the rear made a similar sound as a new mount. It turns out this car has a rear toe (yes TOE) linkage (I have no idea why) and the whole thing has to be replaced. The dealer covered the cost but said it would have been $950 dollars out of pocket on a car with 68, 000 KMs on it. The dealer took it to three places and eventually took it to Dodge because no one knew what it was, I still have no clue why the hell a little 4 banger manual car has a TOE linkage very similar to the TOW linkage on our Ram (that is how the Dodge dealer described it to my dealer). Results could have literally been the back end dissipating. Tires separate from struts,, frame give way etc. I was told that Dodge is looking to add this as a mandatory check to their Calibers as well as other vehicles that have this for safety and cert. But who knows...Then the hesitation started....

My Dodge Caliber Has 40,000 miles On It. Took It In to Have Tires Rotated. Was Told I Had A Bad Tie Rod End, So I Took It To My My Mechanic. He Put It On The Lift & Told Me The Left Ball Joint & Both Left & Right Tie Rod Ends Were Bad. I Was Shocked That Could Be Possible With The Current Mileage. But Since I Have Read Many Complaints About The Same Problem on 2007 Dodge Calibers. I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL & THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM!!!
