Engine ticks when engine is warm and really noisy. When engine is cold makes normal engine running noise until reaches operating temp. You can slowly hear it ticking a min later and does not go away. Replace cylinder head or lifters and dealer was horrible service at Napoleton Chrysler in Lansing IL. Dealer states that normal for it tick and not normal for these engine to tick , dealers are bullshitting you by telling you that.
Update from May 7, 2015: Engine ticks when is warm and really noisy, and when engine is cold make normal engine running noise until reaches operating temp you can slowing hear it ticking a min later and does not go away at all.
Solution is replace cylinder head or lifters and dealer will tell normal, don't let get to you like that, because its not normal for 2.4 l engine tick at all , and don't let them try to convince you to tell you that its normal because not at normal, and if is ticking that means that something terribly wrong with your engine such as a lifters, push rod, rockers arms and valve springs, and for any engine its not normal for any engine tick period.
My advice to anyone is to take your car to your trusted mechanic to get looked over before going to a dealership for any warranty repair or problems , because they care of you before the dealer does and my experience with cars they all are a piece of junk of any brands like Honda, Toyota, Ford , Land Rover, Chrysler, Hyundai and many more. From my experience of going school at automotive program in Ivy Tech Community College in East Chicago, just buy the car you like and just hope you don't problems with it, because in end cars are not like the way they used to be like from the 1920s to the early 1990s .
Update from Jun 2, 2015: engine ticks and taps when engine is warm and is really loud ,and when engine is cold normal engine running noise until reaches operating temp you can slowly hear it ticking and tapping a min later and does not go away . replace cylinder head or lifters and dealer was horrible for service at Napoleton Chrysler in Lansing IL dealer states that normal for it tick and tap and it not normal for these engines to tick or tap, mine did both noises, could hear it loudly like 5 or 10 feet away from car it sounded like a old beater car except it was brand new car. Don't let dealer tell you that the noise is normal , because it is not normal . my grandma has a 2013 Chrysler 200 Touring 2.4 L 4 cyl engine with 40,000 miles and does not tick or tap at all and heard 10 other 2.4 L 4 cyl engine year range 2008-2014 and did not make noise at all and my 2002 Dodge Stratus SE PLUS sedan 2.4 L 4 cyl does not tick or tap at all and has 125,219 miles and 13 years old .
