The dealer is trying to isolate it and let me know next steps. Hoping I dont need a trans and if so it better be new not remanufactured. They did test the identical car with same engine and 6 soeed auto and it didnt make the noise.
Update from Apr 3, 2013: In addition to the transmission grind every 3 to 4 starts after use the tip start cranks from anywhere from 3 to 8 times before the engine starts. The rest of the time cranks 1-2 times normal and fires up.
