So, after telling the dealership service dept. about this scary awful noise coming the steering of the BRAND NEW CAR I just bought a couple months ago, and the knocking in the steering that you feel on each turn, they kept my car for an entire day only to tell me they couldn't hear or feel anything! I dropped it off at 8am and had to call the next day at noon in order to find out what they were (or WEREN'T) doing with the car? So, my husband takes them for a test drive. OF Course.....no noise. We are shocked! Then the manager says bring it back when you hear it again. OK, the next day I turn right into a parking lot and KNOCK! There it is again, it started to knock all day everyday and because I have MANY other issues with Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Bryan Texas (which I will list separately) I have not taken it back to them. Did a little research (a little to late) and turns out others have this same problem. I am so sick and tired of getting ripped off by dealerships that I want to drive this POS into the front window of the building and say....."Pay for it yourself, morons!" We just paid $23,000.00 for a car we can't even drive because its in the shop every other day! WHAT! and we bought it with only 20 miles. That doesn't sound right to me! DODGE if your listening.....DO THE RIGHT THING...give us HARD WORKING buyers our money back so we can go buy a car that doesn't have problems!

Update from Sep 25, 2013: It was the Rack and Pinon. They replaced the whole steering gear and got it done in 1 day! Car feels like new now when driving. so, everyone who is experiencing the same noise and feel in your Dodge Avenger.......take it in!

My 2013 Dodge Avenger has a knocking noise that sounds like its in the steering column. It knocks bad as hell. The dealership claims they've never heard this before. I've researched and found that this is an ongoing problem. Why do I have these issues with a brand new car. I will NEVER buy another dodge and I will discourage all friends and family from buying one. It knocks after its been driven for a while. It doesn't knock first thing in the morning. When turning it knocks BAD. The steering column is where you feel and hear the noise. I hope they find a fix SOON! It's getting worse and worse. It thumps and knocks, thumps and knocks. You think you buy a new car to not have these issues and then the dealership acts so nonchalant about it.

The car was bought with 17 miles on it at the end of October. A case was opened with Dodge in December. The engine light came on. Took it back to dealership they cut it off. and it came back on a day later. They turned it off and supposedly checked the car. The car has never started right up like it should. Especially for a brand new car. After a little while there were several different strange/disturbing noises coming from the front of the car. When trying to explain these noises, it is very difficult because there are a couple different ones. The most prevalent one is like a thumping or clicking near the steering column. It is mostly when I make sharp turns. Back up while turning. Or when its cold. Another sound is more faint and hard to ear. It is somewhere to the left of the steering column. The other sound came from the center front of the car...Literally sound like something large just fell down. Like something just dropped. Scared me. These noises don't seem to matter much to the dealership but, I know they could be dangerous. I have been told that I am not in danger but...anything in the front of the car...with the engine and/or steering is a danger to me. I am very unhappy with my 2013 Dodge Avenger. It has not driven right since day one. I am not sure if this is an overall problem or if I just got a bad one in the bunch but, I will not purchase a Dodge ever again.
