I have a 2008 Dodge Avenger that I bought used about 6 months ago. It does have a good bit of miles on it because it was used as an Enterprise Rental Car before I bought it. Yesterday I went to leave work, cranked the car and it would not come out of park. I have heard the put your foot on the brake and try again, ok well I am not stupid I know how to take a vehicle out of park. Today I have been searching online and notice that a lot of people are having this same problem and I don't believe that it is something that we should have to be paying for if its happening with multiple vehicles. I had to have it rigged up so that I could drive for the weekend and when we called Dodge they said there was no recall on it so that we would have to pay for it to be fixed. This is completely ridiculous to be going on with a car that is a year or 2 old and it just happens randomly and people are getting stuck out in public with no way to move their vehicles unless they know somebody that can rig it up for them. Somebody said to call Chrysler Customer Service and talk to them to see if they could get it covered since its happening to so many vehicles but that doesn't do me any good when they are only open for 8-5 Monday through Friday and this happened on the weekend!

No way should my gear get stuck in park when its only 1 year old. Granted I have a lot of miles on my car, but it is all highway. I had to pay for my own rental and the cost to fix it. Around $700 total. Whats the point in having a new car then???

I went out to leave for work and started the car as usual and then proceeded to put in gear and it was locked in park. I tryed to pull it down and broke off the gear shift knob. I was late for work, I had to call a friend at 5:30 in the morning to get a ride. I called my insurance to get it towed to dealer. I went to the dealer after work, they told me what the problem was and put me in a rent car, which they tell me I have to pay for at their cost $35.00 a day. They still haven't received the part. Has any one had this problem with the gear shift module in the 2008 avenger? Please let me know.

Avenger R/T 3.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission

On 3 separate occasions, my transmission would get stuck in 1st gear. The gear shifter would be in Drive. It would happen when I stopped at a red light and when I went to drive again, it wouldn't shift out of 1st gear. I found that if I pulled over, turned the car completely off, then turned it back on again, it would shift just fine. I took it to the dealer several times and they said nothing was wrong. They even test drove it when it was stuck in 1st gear and experienced it for themselves, but had no explanation. But they did "reset" the "computer" in my car and it seems to have solved the problem! Has anyone else experienced this?

Everything was going good in my day, until after working a 10 hour day I was heading home and I started my 2008 dodge avenger. The car and the shift stick was stuck in park. I called many people to tell me what to do and nobody knew. I took it to the dealer after 3 hours trying that finger in the hole technique that finally moved and I did not stopped until I got to the dealer. They took it in and I haven't heard any word from them yet...

I am sooooo frustrated right now.. I thought that because it was a 2008 car I wouldn't have any problems like this... THIS SUCKSSS>>>>>
