I brought this 2008 Dodge Avenger Sept. 2015. After a month of driving, I noticed that while in park waiting for my daughter's school bus to arrive, the car suddenly revved up like I put my foot on the gas when I didn't. Then a few minutes later it just shut off. It started back with no problem. This happened maybe three to four times a week for about a month then stopped. Recently it started doing it again. This time I was at a stop light and all of a sudden the engine revved up again like it wanted to take off even with my foot on the brake. This scares me because I don't want to rear end someone or cause any accidents. It also started to shut off when I sitting at a stop light. I looked up recalls for this issue on Cars.com and there seems to be one for this sort of issue. I will call Chrysler to see what can be done. Anyone else with this issue? Please state what was done about it. I need answers!!!

With the car not in gear & in park (foot NO where close to accelerator) the car revs up between 3-4 for a few seconds...as if you were pushing on the accelerator.

The vehicle has a mind of its own and the dealership seems to believe I make up the fact that this car has an electrical/engine problem. Over the period of 2 years my vehicle has accelerated RPMs upwards of 5-6K without my foot ever being on the gas. It has happened when I've been in park and has happened at stop lights. When I take it to the dealership and explain the problem they tend not to believe me because I cannot repeat the issue for them. Therefore, I am done with DODGE, CHRYSLER, and that dealership. As I read other peoples post on AutoBeef, I noticed they are having the same issue just placing their complaints under various topics. It's good to see I'm not crazy and others believe this issue could lead to a serious injury. I will no longer allow my girlfriend to drive my vehicle because of this acceleration problem.

I was at the bank with my car in park. The engine revved to like a 3 or a 4. I had my foot no where near the gas pedal. This could be dangerous.
