At first I had no problems with my used 2008 Dodge Avenger, then after about a year or so, while I was driving the Electronic Throttle Control light came on and the car lost power but did not cut off. I pulled over and turned the car off and turned it back on again to see if it would happen again, and it did. I read the instruction book that came with the car to see what the problem was. It said if the light remains on when the engine is running, the car is usually drivable and to see the dealer ASAP. If the light is flashing when the engine is running you can experience power loss, an elevated/rough idle, increased brake pedal effort and that it will require towing and immediate service. So, I took the car to the shop and gave them this information from the instruction book and left the car with them.
They said they check the car and the light didn't come on and everything seemed fine. I took the car and it did it again, so we took it back to the shop and asked them to keep it for a few days to drive it. They said the light didn't come on and if the light doesn't come on, they don't know what the code is to fix it. Well, I took the car and before I could make it to work the light came on. It made me think they didn't even drive it. I called them immediately and told them it happened again and that I was bringing it back.
Well, we took it back later that week and also asked them to check the breaks. They replaced the front brake pads and said that the high idling was probably because it was a newer car. Well, it's not a new car idle and I am not crazy. The car is now idling so high, it is screaming and I am afraid to drive it.
Before taking it to this shop, I it took to several others and they couldn't or wouldn't help either.
I bought the extended warranty, but refinanced the car recently and not sure if I still have coverage. At any rate, I don't have thousands of dollars to fix the problem. So I am at the point of trading it in. If anyone has had a problem with the Electronic Throttle Control and know the code, or can provide any information about this, please respond ASAP.
Thanks, Bettie
