This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler Town and country. The contact stated that the blind stop monitoring system malfunctioned and failed to illuminate in the mirrors. The audible beeping sound was also inoperable while another vehicle was approaching. The cause of the failures were not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 43,000.
The drivers side rear sliding door (automatic) does not fully latch, especially during hot days. It continues to try and fully latch until I manually close it by hitting the area where the latch is with a hip or fist. At times it will set off the alarm while stationary if the doors are locked as the door will even attempt to open on it's own. Based on other reports I've read of people having this same problem, their doors have even unlatched when driving. This is a major concern as it poses a safety hazard and based on research I've conducted it's a known problem for this model year. Please send to Chrysler. Thank you!
The passenger side sliding door actuator is going bad and is failing to unlock making this vehicle hazardous for my children who sit in the back seat. When the actuator fails, the door will not unlock and subsequently will not open making exiting the vehicle in an emergency much more difficult for rear seat passengers.
The vehicle stalls and all electrical turns off when driving. When the vehicle is in motion and slowing down to make a turn the vehicle stops running and the whole electrical system turns off so there is no power steering, no brakes, the whole electrical system fails. The stability control light comes on after a few seconds and stays on until you pull over turn the key off and then back on. The vehicle restarts after you do this but it has happened 4 times in the last 3 days.
The passenger door lock actuator does not function correctly and does not reliably lock the door. This started on 12/02/2019 and the vehicle had only 35000 miles on it. Doors that do not lock when the vehicle is in motion is an extreme danger and should be resolved by Chrysler.
Driverside passenger door lock actuator fail. Door will not open stuck in the locked position. It will not open manually either. Vehicle was in the parked position. Went to open it and it would not open at all had to have the kids gets out on other side.
I have started having problems with the drivers side heat not wanting to warm up while the passenger side still gets hot. After a while of letting the heat run on defrost you can turn the heat to the vents and the drivers side will be luke warm while the passenger is still hot.
This car is a melon. It is less than 4 years old and in the past six months I have had two major issues. The transmission died and there is a recall on other Chrysler Town and country's for this same problem but not my car. Now the electrical control unit that controls all the actions of the vehicle (wipers, turn signals, etc) has died and has to be replaced.
I was driving about 30 mph. I had turned on the defrost for about 20 min. Weather was about 70 degrees outside. All of a sudden I heard a loud bang sounded like a gunshot. Then it smelled like something burning and the rear glass just shattered. Held together by the tint but completely shattered. I believe the rear defrost exploded somehow.
1) the automatic transmission is jerking when it switches to another gear at speeds less than about 40 mph. 2) the back up camera stopped working right at 35,000 miles.
The cinch motor started vibrating like a jackhammer whenever the back passenger door would slide closed while the vehicle was stationary. After less than a week of this the door refused to open at all.
I reported issues with my transmission when the vehicle had 19212 miles on it. The problem reported has been hard shifting and hard down shift at stops. Problems occur in city driving conditions. Recently, now at 49100 miles, 2nd gear isn't kicking in. Dangerous in heavy traffic when rush hour traffic has the tendency to come to a stop and then go but if the vehicle doesn't shift to second gear. I need to pull over and shut the vehicle down and turn it back on and hope it will temporary fix. The service department at my dealership said I needed and oil change (recommended is 60K for transmission). I went ahead and paid for this service but the problem still exist in 2nd gear not shifting in. The dealer service advisor said my vehicle needs to re-learn my driving conditions. I'm weary about the advisors explanation and will find that at 60K powertrain warranty expiration. The service department will diagnose the problem at my cost. As it has occurred with my window motor/regulator. I reported a distinct noise when operating the windows at the same mileage noted above. No problems found. Today my vehicle is in the shop for the same problem but it's out of warranty and I will be receiving a call with the cost to repair it.
First reported my transmission concern at 19212 miles with the dealership service department. Hard shifting and slipped downshift at stops. At 49100 miles the 2nd gear isn't shifting in and requires for me to stop, pull over and start the vehicle again. The service advisor recommended a transmission oil change. But I continue to have a shifting problem and the advisor claims my vehicle needs to re-learn my driving habits. It concerns me to have this as an explanation when there is only 1 yerra/60K left on my powertrain warranty. In addition with 19212 miles I reported my drivers side window making an unusual noise. Dealership service department said no problems existed. At 49100 miles my drivers side window is completely unserviceable and now I'm told I will get a call with repair cost.
The lane detection system has corroded and no longer functions. I turned the system off but now a electrical short is being caused by the problem. This short causes the wipers to engage, the warning lights (multiple) to go off on the dash, and the speedometer no longer functions. The car has fewer than 70,000 miles.
