I just want to say, as many blind spots as this van has, the blind spot detection system should work at all times. If it is faulty, the relays and other switches shouldn't cost so much to buy! The is extremely frustrating. As cheap as the van was made, surely to God they can afford to sell their parts a bit cheaper.
So I purchased my 2012 T & C used from a Honda dealer. Took it to a Chrysler dealer for a complete inspection after purchase. They said it was fine. I started reading the manual and found that I needed to turn the blind spot indicators on (one of the reasons I purchased this car). When I turned them on, it indicated there was a failure and to take it to the dealer. When I took it back to the dealer, I found out that the blind spot sensors were MISSING. After doing much research, I found the previous owner had a problem with the blind spot sensors and was working with another Chrysler dealer to get them fixed. The warrantied sensors were ordered but the customer never brought the car back for the repair to be completed. I could not get warrantied work done because there were NO SENSORS to return to Chrysler. The prior Chrysler dealer fought with me and said they would not have taken them off as it was a safety feature. The Honda dealer didn't know where they were even supposed to be located.
So after much fighting and threatening to expose the Honda dealer on the local news and report to the Attorney General, the Honda dealer got a Chrysler dealer to install the sensors at no charge to me. Remember, this vehicle had less than 20,000 miles on it. So around January 2015 I got new sensors. Hardly used them. Then during the winter of 2016 they went out AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was outside my 3-year warranty on the car with less than 36,000 miles and was screwed!
I drive in winter conditions on salted roads and I think the placement of these sensors in the rear bumper just invites the salt to corrode the sensors. What idiot designed this? Gosh, could you at least put a bag or something around the sensors to protect them? I don't have a extra $2000 lying around to replace a feature on a car. I have purchased Chrysler vans for years. NO MORE!
The blind spot sensor will not shut off! It's a terrible problem at night and makes it very difficult to see. Very distracting! What I have read from other people is that this could cost up to $2000. We had other problems with Town and Country and Chysler customer service is awful!
I am now being jacked around buy Chrysler have spent 195.00 in diagnostic fees so they can talk to the mechanic as to what the problem is. After reading these various complaints I think they already knew!!!!! The dealership said that both sensors and wiring are bad due to getting wet. If that is the case I think they have a design flaw or poor materials And it will be at least 3,000.00 to replace. If that is the case will I have to replace them every 36,000 miles, when you spend more than I spent on my first house on a vehicle that is disheartening to say the least!
