THE VAN WOULD NOT START. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS THE STARTER (IT WAS NOT) I HAD THE BATTERY REPLACED 6 MONTHS AGO BECAUSE IT DIED. HAD THE CHARGING CIRCUIT CHECKED OUT (OK). I HAD TROUBLE WITH THE TOWN & COUNTRY NOT STARTING AT TIMES, BUT WHEN IT REFUSED TO START TODAY, AFTER HAVING IT IN THE DEALER LAST WEEK, LETS JUST SAY I WAS VERY UPSET.

IF CHRYSLER HAS KNOWN ABOUT THE TIPM MODULE PROBLEM, IT SHOULD BE RECALLED NOT CHARGE OWNERS FOR A CRAPPY PART. THIS WILL DEFINITELY BE MY LAST CHRYSLER, IF IT IS NOT TAKEN CARE OF!!!!

Hi, I have been having a similar starting issue.

Reported it first on 2/9/2015. Dealership replaced Winmodule for $930. A month later the engine light stayed on and still some starting issues, they replaced the generator for $663.

3 month starting issues came back and they replaced the starter itself for $815.

5 days after that the car continued to have starting issues, this time they replaced the battery ($220)... and the issues is still not solved... so now the van is still at the service and they have not gotten back to me, what the real issue is. the car is just 4 years old and has 50,000 miles on it.

Our reliable car these days is my 13 year old VW Passat...

So far they have not fixed the initial problem but replaced parts and charged for services in the amount of $2632 ... after today it will be a call to Chrysler...Lucky for me, that I got the 8 year warranty with the car, but what good does this do, when I can't use the car, since it is sitting at the dealership/ service... or in my garage but won't start.

This was the second time I had problems with my car starting. The first time I reported this, the dealership service dept, replaced the TIMP and programed TIPM reconfiguration system. Ten months later, I had the same problem occur. The engine would NOT turn over. The lights on the dashboard would come on, but there was no power to the ignition. By now the car had 55,000 miles and was out of warranty.

I took the car back and they insisted that this time it was the Win Module, even though I kept saying that the problems I was having pin pointed to the TIPM. Prior to this call I had had a lot of problems with the service at this particular dealership (for example, they had done some work on the vehicle that was absolutely NOT necessary and had tried to charge me for this). From past experiences with the service people, I now ONLY dealt with the manager, as he was aware that I had very little confidence in his service people ( I am a single woman, barley 5 feet tall, and Mexican), and yes they do stereo-type in the area where I reside.

The service manager decided that they would replace the Win module (instead of the TIMP) and would work with Chrysler to cover the problem. A day AFTER I brought my car home, the same problem resulted. Car would not start. I'm right back to where I started.........

The day after we bought the car it stalled out and the power steering went out. We pulled over and turned it off and restarted the engine. It ran fine. In the coming weeks it had a hard time starting first thing in the morning. Then it became nearly impossible. In late March, my wife was driving it with my two small children in the car. It stalled out and the power steering went out again. She couldn't get it started and we had it towed to the dealership service station. The best they could give us was a guess that it was a electrical issue with the fuel pump. We didn't get it fixed then because we wanted more than a guess. Two days later it wouldn't start again and we had it towed back. Today we had the electrical fixed on the fuel pump. We'll see if this fixes the issue. I have my doubts considering so many other people are having issues with the TIPM.

The car had been having weird electrical issues, like doors opening on their own, windows opening, windows going up when pushing the down switch. Reported to dealership, nothing wrong found on two occasions. Then one day the car simply shut off while I was driving, no warning at all, would not turn back on, had to be towed to dealership, where it was determined it was the TIPM. The car is now out of warranty, and we are out over $1100, even though I think the weird electrical problems may have been caused by this TIPM.

Update from Jan 30, 2015: We picked the car up from the dealer with a new TIPM. Immediately noticed that both front turn signals are now not working and now a battery sign is lighting up on the dash, which never occurred before.

We have only owned the car since July 2014.

The car simply won't start at times. After some time passes, it will start. While it won't start, all the lights are on and battery is fine. We have taken it to the dealer 5 times, but it has happened approximately 20 times (most recently both 12/27 and 12/28). The dealer has tried multiple solutions (upgraded software, replaced WIN and TIPM, replaced ground wire).

This situation is NOT SAFE. My wife is carrying 5 kids around (3 in car seats). She has been stranded multiple times (while pregnant and now with an infant). I have no confidence in the car, and who knows if the power will shut off while the car is underway.

Car will not start normally. Will take 5 to 15 minutes of attempting to get car started. Battery will die for no apparent reasons if left un-driven for a few days. Car is currently at Chrysler Service Center for now 4 weeks with no solution on hand. They claim it is caused by a electrical draw and need to work on every relay and system to identify its source. I contacted Chrysler Corporate for additional information on how to resolve, no response yet; It has been over a week. I have suggested that problem can be related the broader TIPM issue affecting many Chrysler/Jeep vehicle. Service Adviser had no interest and stated they must check every system as stated by manufacturer.

In September my husband bought me a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country. The van did not seem to have any issues until we had it for a few weeks. At first it was just having problems starting, yet it would eventually start. We figured at that time it was due to the weather getting colder and maybe needed a new fuel filter. However the issue just continued to get worse. It would take 15 to 30 tries just to get it started. Then it would die before you could even put it in gear. Of course it got worse from there.

The van had been sitting for about 6 hours in my driveway and when I went to start it up it was dead. So we tried to jump start it and nothing. We assumed at that time the battery was bad. We bought a new battery and the van started right up. The next morning when I went to start it the battery was completely drained. Didn't even have enough charge to unlock the doors. Since then we have had to disconnect the battery so that it would not be dead after sitting.

As of yesterday morning the van will not start at all. Once we realized that all the issues that we were having was due to a faulty TIPM we contacted a Chrysler dealership to see what it would cost to replace and how soon it could be done. We were told that the part cost $647.00 and a charge of $190.00 for programing plus labor. That is a lot of money for us to come up with. We were also told that at this time the part is not available. Due to all the vehicles that are having the same issue has caused the part to go on back order. We were also told that no other shops can even buy the part, it can only be done at a Chrysler dealership.

We are very frustrated at this time. We bought this van so that I would have a reliable vehicle to drive our kids to and from school and myself to work. The van now will not start at all no matter what we do. So we have a $20,000.00 loan on a vehicle that does not work and can not be fixed at this time.

The van is totally unreliable. Ninety-five percent of the time the van will not start. When it does start, I usually end up being stranded because it will not start to get me back home. You definitely need AAA with this vehicle.

The issue of not starting just started in October, 2014. The starter cranks. It has a new battery. It may start, then it immediately dies. Then it will just crank, but will not start. I took it to my mechanic last week. His troubleshooting of the problem showed it was a bad fuel pump relay in the TIPM. He said he can get a kit for $40 and labor would be another $70 to install the kit. The issue with him fixing the problem is Chrysler will not release the wiring diagram or the procedures to replace the bad fuel pump relay. Next step is to get with the local Jeep/Chrysler dealer. My past experiences with issues and this dealer have usually not played out well for me.

If Chrysler does not do a recall to fix these TIPM issues very soon, they are looking at major litigation.

Town & Country 3.6L

Just as I have read many other complaints online from other Town & Country owners, we too have experienced problems with our van starting. As it often happens, we were out of town and had to travel at least 70-80 miles to a Chrysler dealer, once we able to get it started. I will have to say we were treated very well, and they kept the van for the afternoon and let us drive a van from the dealer for the afternoon. Their diagnosis was that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. However, they could not fix it because they did not have a fuel pump in stock and indicated that they were on back log. (Seems there have been many others who have needed fuel pumps or perhaps the same diagnosis).

The dealer showed a way to start the van to get it home. It sounds crazy but it has worked. They told us to turn the ignition to accessories and wait 3 to 4 seconds and do this 3 times and then turn the key all the way the fourth time. They told us the pump was losing pressure and doing this would increase the pressure enough to start the van. Whatever!! It worked.

We searched online for a fuel pump but could not locate one. However, one of the vendors online indicated that he showed one available approximately 200-225 miles from were we live. At the time we thought we might have hit the jackpot. We had the pump sent to us by UPS and had it installed. The problem seemed to be fixed for about 2 days and yes, you guessed it, back to square one. We are however able to start the van as described above, but sometimes we have to try the method 3 or 4 times. Shortly after having the new fuel pump installed, we kept hearing a fan-like noise near the gas tank.

Long story short, after talking with a couple of mechanics they seem to think the fuel pump is staying on. This makes sense as we had to jump start the van one morning because the battery was dead. The two mechanics have been gracious enough to research the problem as much as possible as believe it is the same problem others have mentioned, the TIPM. Unfortunately, our van is at the local dealership and we have not heard anything yet. Will keep everyone posted.

Also, I don't have time to mention other problems we have had with this van. I will mention that we had to have a new battery and alternator replaced at 58,000 miles. I just wonder if this could have been affected by potential TIPM problems.

Update from Nov 24, 2014: I took our van to the local dealer on 10/27/14 and got it back on 10/30/14. As mentioned by other owners, the problem was the TIPM, which was replaced at a cost of $904.52. The cost was with a personal 10% discount card for labor and parts. Otherwise the cost would have been $999.95.

I've been having problems getting my van to start. I thought it was the battery and had it replaced. After coughing up $150.00 to have a diagnostic at the dealership, it turns out it is the TIPM and they want me to pay $1300 to replace it. Mfg warranty does not cover it and after doing research on it, it turns out that there are a lot of faulty TIPM's for the same year for Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep.

The dealer should recall this part and the consumer should not have to pay for this at all. They want to make the consumer pay a large amount of money and it is ridiculous. I am paying a lot of money for this van and I have it parked because I do not feel safe driving it with my children in the car. I am glad I am not alone in dealing with this. I spoke to a lawyer regarding the class action law suit and he said it looks like they will be recalling this part but it might be a month or so. I hope this is the case but in the meantime I'm SOL because I can't even drive it. I'm stuck and don't even know what to do. Do I fix it and hope to get reimbursed, or let it sit parked and hope it gets recalled soon???

The van had been running fine before this incident. I just got home from work and was home for about an hour when I went back out to run an errand. I turned the key and the van started and immediately died. There was no power except for the overhead lights. All dash lights where flickering like a strobe light and then would shut off again. I could not start the van or get the key fob out. It basically seemed like all electric was dead. We let the car sit over night and tried to mess with it the next day. I had to get a ride to work because this is our only vehicle for our family.

The second issue we had with van. We were told by Chrysler CS to replace the battery in the key fob because it issues the power to the car. We replaced the battery in the key fob to humor the agent...guess what, that didn't work. Then we read online on a different site that it could be the safety feature disabled if the key fob is not recognized so we unhooked the battery, hooked it back up and then jumped it. That worked for a very short time (like 10 mins). Drove it around the block to see if that was truly the issue.....guess what, van died while driving. I was able to coast into a residential neighborhood.

Tried to get it jumped again to get home around the corner. Took forever to jump and it was draining the other vehicle when trying to jump it. It would get some power but then the dash light would strobe again, wipers came on by themselves (they were never turned on). While driving it home after a jump, the dash lights would flicker and strobe the whole time. Just as I was pulling into the driveway the van lost power again....I lost power steering and barely stopped before hitting our retaining wall in our front yard. And guess what....car won't start again. Tried calling Chrysler and dealership.....was told we had to have it towed to the dealership and they would look at it. Asked them how can it be towed when the van won't even go in neutral? And still can't get the key fob out of the ignition.

To Whom It May Concern, I purchased a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country and It has a bad TIPM. I have done a lot of research and found there is a lot of vehicles that are having this problem and lawsuits across the country. I was told that I was the 67th person waiting for this part. I think this proves my point that something is very wrong with this picture. Also, our Sales Person told us this was a Certified Vehicle and at this point the Van has been sitting more than it has been driven since we purchased it. It has left me stranded 5 times total. It is now sitting in my yard and won't start at all. I am considering talking to a lawyer and finding out what my options are at this time. I have call to talk to the General Manager and can't get past the Finance Manager. I am without a vehicle, disabled (had surgery five days after receiving the van) and have a disabled son that live in Houston (I can't get to at this time). The one thing that I told OUR SALES PERSON was I couldn't be without a vehicle and it had to be trust worthy. I have been a loyal customer and at this point I am very disappointed with the care and attitudes that I have received for the past six weeks. I believe I should be compensated for the everything I've been through. We have talked with the Chrysler and made a complaint and will continue to write everyone we can think of. I'm at my wits end.

Like many, many owners of a 2011 Chrysler, I am now faced with replacing my TIPM.

It started off as a series of off "quirks", with the radio and electronic AC controls seemingly having a mind of their own. It eventually got to the point where we experienced severe issues with starting the car. What was initially diagnosed as a faulty WIN module eventually turned out to be a bad TIPM. In addition to facing a $1000+ fix, our mechanic said the part is so backlogged that it could be anywhere from "two weeks to two months" before one is available. He also said we could try and drive it in the meantime, however with reports of airbags randomly deploying and the car shutting off altogether while in motion, it's not something I feel comfortable putting my two and six year old children into.

Second time this happened. Last time was on Easter Sunday with the same issue. Had it fixed at Walker Chrysler in Centerville, OH where I purchased it. They fixed it by replacing a module but I came back because it was still having issues as I had to click the button multiple times to get the doors to open and the vehicle kept telling me the key had left the vehicle. They were quick to respond and didn't do anything formal but took the keys back and came back a few minutes later stating they tested within normal parameters. I asked them if they were sure because I was about to drive across country from Ohio to Florida with a 1 and a 3 year old for our 1st ever Disney trip that we have been saving for forever. They assured me I should be fine. I made it down to Orlando fine, but then the vehicle frequently wouldn't start. It stopped reading one key completely and the other was hit & miss. The Orlando Chrysler dealers really did not want to help me and stated they preferred I brought it back my original dealer or call the Chrysler emergency response number, if I really needed help. Left Orlando and went to Tampa where finally it stopped reading the other key. The Tampa dealer was outstanding, but I was a little upset with my dealer because I found out that it was a well known common problem and the recommended fix was not only the module replacement, but key replacement (not reprogramming as my dealer did) and some sort of software update which they accomplished and I haven't had a problems since. Contacted my dealer when I got back and they just stated they did all they were required to do. I won't be utilizing them anymore. Hopefully my issue is resolved or else I will be getting rid of the vehicle completely.
