The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country van. The front defrost mechanism for her front windshield failed to operate normally. While driving approximately 45 mph and trying to utilize the defrost mechanism in snowy weather, it failed to engage. The ice continued to build up on the front windshield and wipers; however, the defrost mechanism would not help with getting the precipitation off of the front windshield. On a separate occasion, the incident occurred while driving in freezing cold weather. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that there was a design flaw in the defrost mechanism of her year, make and model vehicle. The current and failure mileages were under 15,000.
Consumer states that the defroster on the windshield will freeze the window and wipers from the bottom of the windshield. The consumer was informed the vehicle was performing as designed and there was no defrost around the bottom of the windshield. The dealer told the consumer a heat wire could be installed with a separate switch, but it would be expensive.
