Town & Country Touring 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,800 miles

On my way home from a family vacation at 2:00 am, as I rounded the curve of the off ramp, my transmission decides it's going to stay in 2nd gear. Fortunately at this point I'm only 5 miles from home with my wife and 2 kids sound asleep. So I creep it on home at 25 mph. It's under warranty so that's not a issue, but it took Chrysler almost 2 weeks to figure out the problem. They put the piece of crap on the diagnostic machine to get the error code, caused the check engine light came on, and they said once they cleared the code it wasn't stuck in 2nd any more and it was fine to come and pick it up. Sure. Do they think we're all idiots! After a couple of phone calls they agreed to keep it a couple of days and the manager would drive it to see if the problem would occur again. The very next day guess what? The mechanic was stumped. Never seen this before. Then it turns out the mech. working on car was scheduled to go to some training seminar and wouldn't be back for a couple of days (they were paying for the rental) While he was there, he learned this was not uncommon. It was going on in a lot of these trans. ( 6 speed ) so he came back and fixed the freaking car. All I know is it had something to do with a computer chip but they had to replace the whole trans. What the hell!
