We have owned our 2008 T&C for about 9 months. We have had a least 15 occurrences with the electrical system going crazy. It started with a small hiccup 2 weeks after we bought it. The engine jerked and stalled, wipers went on, washer fluid shot out, Pulled over and it restarted fine. 4 months went by no issues. Then the fan started going on and off when it choose to. If we shut the vehicle off and restart it the fan will work again. Weird. Happened at least 3 times a week.

One day the whole system went crazy, the horn stayed on blaring, front and back windshield wipes turning on, washer fluid spaying at a high pressure, drained tank in 30 seconds, hazard lights going on. I turned the vehicle off and take key out. The van was still running after turning it off. I disconnected the battery. Stayed running. I had to disconnect the fuel pump fuse to get it to stop. After reconnecting the battery the system went off again. So I disconnect it again, waited 10 minutes, reconnected it. Then nothing. Can't start vehicle, the power works on some things. It took at least 60 minutes for the system to reset itself. We have had it taken in and did an electrical diagnosis on it. No results, but they did find 3 other recalls on the vehicle and fixed them. They have no idea on what is going on. I am real tired of the bull Sh!T. There has to be a solution.

We bought our 2008 van used in 2010. The problem began last summer, 2013. I was driving up my driveway and the van shut off. I thought maybe it overheated, since I was running the air conditioner and radio. I lost all power, coasted to the end of the drive, put it in park and turned the engine off then on again. It started and I drove my kids to our destination. It was happening more frequently, but just in driveways. Then a month or 2 later, it shuts off in traffic! As I'm turning left at the green arrow, the van shuts off and I coast to the shoulder of the turning lane. Thank God no one was behind me or I would have been hit! My kids were worried too! There is no rhyme or reason to this problem. The van also has trouble starting in the morning. Doesn't turn over after sitting in the garage overnight or in the driveway. We will go a few months without problems, but, when I'm driving it, the problems seem to occur more frequently in the spring and summer months. I refused to drive it over the last few weeks. I asked my hubby to drive it today. I took my kid to school and just when you think all is good, I'm coasting down the drive and, bam! Shuts down again!!! Too Dangerous to drive!!! Our 2 repair shops don't know what to fix. This has to be recalled!

Chrysler Town and Country 2008 van has been an issue for some time now. The van has been at the dealership(s) well over 10+ times regarding the same exact problems. I have video of the problem also.

Chrysler's Tech engineers at Chrysler corporate have been involved to also having a Chrysler Corporate Engineer look at the van at one of the dealerships in person. The van has been at dealership for over 2 months trying to fix the problem and another dealership now has had it for over a month (still at dealership now) with similar and same problems we have had with the van for years. The dealership now cannot figure out what’s going on, Chrysler Tech engineers corporate are involved again and they still have not figured out what is going on.

Issues with T&C van;

(1) At times the van won't turn over at all. (2) Van will turn over but won't go into gear. (3) Van makes clicking noise when trying to start, won't turn over. (4) Van was stuck in 2nd gear, drove 12 miles home would not change out of gear (video of this) (5) Dealership states that they can't see any prompts or error codes when hooked up to tester at dealership. (6) Gear stuck if you jiggle the gear shift at times the van will go into gear. (7) If you can force the gear shift manually to "N" roll forward or back the car might start. (8) Sliding doors have been in multiple times with not opening or close electrically.

Dealer unable to duplicate car stopping, horn blowing, windshield wipers going because they don't drive it. We picked up the car July 25 and over that weekend, the car stopped while driving with same symptoms. We took the car back into the dealer (8/4) after calling the 1-800 to have a case manager put on it and they are unable to find the problem. They are now going to wire-by-wire continuity check on our dime ($100/hr) to see if they can find the problem. This is a safety issue and they take no responsibility for the car (never been in an accident).

This is a problem that started out small and seems to get worse especially when the weather is cold or wet. It is always there though. On a good day, when you open the doors, the wipers will flinch and it's done. On a bad day, the horn will constantly honk, the wipers will run, washer fluid pour until it is empty and if driving at night, the headlights go off. This will continue until the battery is dead almost every time that it happens. Other times, on good days, it will just stop when it feels like it. I have taken this to several mechanics, none of which can find the problem let alone a solution. Chrysler told me that they could not help me unless I took it to a certified mechanic. No help there either! I am hoping that I do not lose my headlights or worse while driving on the dangerous, curvy mountain roads that I drive every day!

Took the car to inept dealership several times without problem identified properly or fixed.

By my description of the problem/symptoms they should have known what it was from.

Finally did the research myself and found the TIPM issue and basically FORCED the dealership to fix it , rubbing their noses into the subject.

Have had issues with stalling for months. Taken to local service center 3 times but they cannot fix it. Next step is to go to dealer, but I'm not encouraged based on reading similar issues with little to no solutions.

Typical stall:

Usually less than driving 1/2 mile, while accelerating, the power steering gives out, the brakes lock up then the engine light comes on. The key has to be turned all the way to off position before it will restart.

Frequency is 1-4 times per week.

The Van went into complete electrical shutdown without any warning. No electrical power what-so-ever! The vehicle sat for 1/2 hour, and then everything was fine (almost). The Radio including the back-up camera would not work. Safety issue with me. Electrical checks reveal nothing wrong with the electrical system, and there is power to the radio. A new radio is $600.00 so I have not replaced it. Have not seen this problem addressed yet. If anybody out there has some idea for a fix, I would like to hear about it.

CIRCUMSTANCES: driving 65 MPH on 4 lane expressway in the rain, daytime, with nothing happening. ..... THEN there is a large bang in the front, and the van is suddenly decelerating hard. The engine sounds to be banging back and forth inside hood while the van is skidding down the roadway. Also all dash warning lights are flashing on and off, the wipers are stalled in the middle of the window, the backup camera is on, and the speedometer and tach. show zero while I'm still going about 45 mph. The skidding and banging stops in about 3 seconds, but I have no engine power or power steering. And it will not restart, even when put in neutral ( one detent up since I have no dash display of PRND. After managing to pull out of traffic, thank you God, I turned off the ignition and was able to restart in neutral while still rolling. Put it in drive and got a hard shift - and the van is now stuck in second gear (limp home mode). I took it to nearest dealer who now after 2 days they can find absolutely nothing wrong, and that it shifts just fine. But they agreed to replace the PCM (powertrain control module) after one is obtained - estimate 2 to 3 weeks. Hmmm, maybe they are out since there are so many similar problems and inventory is used up......I'm taking it back from the dealer to park at home till parts are found. I'm afraid to drive it at expressway speeds and am considering selling for a non-chrysler when dust settles. Sorry, this was my 8th Chrysler van since 1991.

Update from Jan 2, 2012: Dealer installed new powertrain-control-module (PCM) just based on my reported symptom, since car checked out with no fault codes when put on diagnostic. It was free under warranty. Dealer offered no promises as to whether this was the fix. They were typically real closed-mouth about it. But an independent car mechanic friend had these comments: 1. Chrysler put the pcm in the worst possible place for electrical - down front in the road spray. 2. 2008 vehicles were worst ever being first year after body style change. 3. 2010 and 2011's are way better just to maturing the design - and hence get JD Powers " highest initial quality" awards. 4. The pcm change improved a corroded connector problem and software updates make it more reliable too.

After having had 8 Chrysler minivans since 1991, I had heard of the "limp-home" transmission electrical faults causing crashes, but never experienced that fault myself till now. So now, having experienced it, I have zero trust in Chrysler, despite the "problem" being fixed. I'm not sure I would buy a Chrysler again, combining this experience with the 20? (lost count) other trips to dealer for other misc. recalls, fixes, and updates to the 2008 T/C minivan. So it never happened again, but the experience left a big negative impression on me, and I sold the vehicle. I bought a 2012 Ford Explorer instead.

Van has gone crazy 3 times now. Last time was the worst as I was driving with my 2 children and the wipers went crazy, horn goes off and then the van lost power, no steering and no brakes. Thankfully I was able to turn the car into a parking lot and hit the curb to stop the car. It could have been much worse and the dealership told me the first time they fixed it now they say they can't replicate the problem so I am fighting with Chrysler to see if they can fix it. If anyone has the same problem and had it fixed please email me what was done so I can have them do it to mine as I am scared to drive it!

Chrysler did allow me to bring the Town and Country in to a dealership to be looked at for free but since this is an electrical issue that happens at random, they cannot locate the problem unless they actually see it happening. That does not negate the fact that this is still a safety issue that has yet to be fixed on my vehicle. Whenever the van feels like it the wipers, lights or anything else electrical just don't turn on. Try driving a vehicle in the dark and pouring rain or snow with three kids in the car and tell me that isn't something that needs to be fixed! Their answer was to pull over and keep restarting the vehicle until it resets again and I can drive to safety. Nice.

On the road in FL, heading home, no problems. Stopped in to use facilities; when we went back out to the van and started it up, the first problem was the wipers came on. Then I noticed that the MyGig/Nav system didn't come on. I then noticed that the instrument cluster wasn't working. Also, the windows and the sunroof didn't work, neither did the back hatch. This occurred with no symptoms leading up to the problem, it was working one minute, then the next it wasn't. We took it to Pep Boys (it was a Saturday and no dealerships service dept were open) who could not determine the problem (figures). We continued driving for about 3 more hours, pulled in to get some dinner. When we went back out to the van, everything was working again, just as mysteriously. We had a working van for quite a while after that, until we hit Tx on I-10. The road was particularly rough and it seemed that this problem may be related to that, as everytime we hit a large bump the dash would go haywire and we would lose the stereo. So far, no idea as to any solution, the blogosphere has some others who have complained about this and other issues with this year/model but no solutions as of yet. Seems to be a common issue.
