A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I own a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country. It was so fine that we got a 2007. Then we got a recall for the new key ignition. So we called a garage in our area and waited for over a year to have it put in. Well, I wish I never would have done it!!!

I wanted to know what the recall was for so the mechanic told me its because when going down the road the switch was shutting off. So I thought thank goodness this hadn't happened to us.

2 weeks after the new switch was installed the problem started. I was driving and the horn just blew all on its own. I thought well I must have bumped it even though I know I didn't. So I told my husband about it. then another week later. I am sitting at the school to pick my kids up and the horn blows and this time the wipers swish I thing dam WTH!!!! I tell my husband about it and he now thinks I'm nuts, because it hasn't happened to him.

After 3 or 4 times my problem went from bad to worse. I went out (HOLDING the keys IN MY HAND.) one morning to take kids to school. I hit the unlock button on the key and all hell breaks lose. The wipers are flying 100 miles an hour, the horn is blaring, and then out of no where keys still in my hand the van starts and it does NOT have a self start!!!!

I put the key in and try to shut it off because at this point my neighbors are ready to kill me. It wouldn't shut off, so I called my husband who was on his way home from work after working all night and I let him hear what was going on. He got home and the only way to stop it was disconnect the battery.

He called a garage and was told to leave the battery disconnected for 10 minuets because this sounds like an electrical thing and 10 minutes should reset it. So he does it. I now won't drive it because its a POS!!!!! But for 2 weeks it seems to have been fixed. He was driving it. I needed to drive it again this time the it was over an hour from home. Kids in van I head out. Gets us there ok.

On the way home going 55MPH down the free way it STOPS!!!!! and the horn, wipers are going back up lights are on. I am now stopped in the middle of the road with 2 kids in the van and my van is acting like it is possessed.

I am so pissed at this point that I want to take this van and drive it so far up Chrysler ASS!!! I got it home with 2 kids who are now terrified to get into any van!! I call the place that put in the new switch chewed them out!! Because I am convinced that this would have never started had we never had the new switch put in. Thats when he tells me it's sounds like the thing that isn't there fault and it will cost me 100 bucks to find out and when they find the problem to be this as he called it "brain of the van" it could cost up to 15 hundred dollars to fix it and this may not even really fix it.

What the hell! I'm not made of money. So my PIECE OF SH*T VAN is now sitting in the drive way with the battery undone because it will just go off all by itself. I refuse to let this be my fault and something I have to pay for!!!! My kids are still scared after a month and after reading on line it could start with my 2007. So when this hurts or god for bid kills someone when will something be done?

Our 08 T&C that we bought new and maintain regularly started going crazy as we drove down the highway one day. Horn blaring, wipers moving, fluid spraying on the windows... Continued for quite some time. Problem got worse and now the door locks go up and down, the dash lights flash, the headlights and brake lights flash, a/c-heat doesn't always turn on, and car doesn't always shift. Been impossible to get a diagnosis since it doesn't always do it. Very scary driving my family of seven around! We have has the transmission rebuilt and the converter replaced as we were told that was a main problem. After my own investigating I have found the TIPM to be a very common problem. What a shame that Chrysler would put its consumers safety at risk and refuse to do anything about it.

Chrysler Totally Integrated Power Module failed on my 2008 Town & Country at 101277 miles. The failure mode was the starter would not turn over when the ignition key was turned.

This is not a catastrophic failure but, from the literature found on the interne, it is symptomatic of a larger group of serious, life threatening failures that have been associated with the Chrysler Totally Integrated Power Module.

There appears to be a design issue with the Module. Either its heat related or some of its components are undersized. In any event, Chrysler needs to redesign this part and produce it in such quantities as to make it available and a reasonable cost for the millions of vehicle owner of Chrysler vehicles.

We put our faith in Chrysler at a time when it would appear that Chrysler would go by the way of other car manufacturers. Now they should be encouraged to step up to the plate and do what it right to those owners that stood by Chrysler and purchased their product.

This problem has been happening for the last 2 months. The horn would start beeping, The Wipers would start running. The radio would turn on. The lights would flash. This would happen while the van was being driven (the van would go dead and couldn't be restarted) or it would be sitting with nobody in or near the van (the key wasn't even around the van). The only way to stop the van from going off was to disconnect the battery.

We've taken the van in 3 times to the local Dodge garage to have the problem fixed. Each time, after charging us a lot of money ($800+, $200+ and $500+), they would claim the van was fixed. It would have the same problem within an hour of leaving the Dodge garage.

The last trip to the Dodge garage, they replaced the TIPM. They only charged us half of the price, after we've already paid over $1000 for the other "repairs" that did not work. It has only been 2 hours since we've left the Dodge garage, so far no problems.

Considering that my van had been towed and supposedly fixed 5 days prior to this, I was shocked when I was driving along to work and suddenly my wind shield wipers were going and my wiper fluid was shooting out at me AGAIN! What, I just had to have my car towed on Friday! Okay, I wasn't that surprised because this problem just keeps happening!

On Friday, 5 days prior, they told me it was a recall for the ignition module. They've seen these symptoms before. Today, after having my car towed again (this time a farther distance), I received a call that this has nothing at all to do with the ignition module replacement and I must pay $966 to get a new TIPM. I tell them that sounds awfully weird considering the same exact thing happened to my van on Friday and it was covered by a recall, and now it's not. They give me a lovely song about how those 2 modules are not at all connected, and this needs to be replaced if I want to be sure I won't stall out again. I ask how this is my fault and what could I have done to prevent it, and his only response was that this is not covered under a recall or a warranty, so I will have to pay.

I called the Chrysler Customer Service line and they said the same thing about it not being covered but their "systems were down" so they couldn't even pull up the VIN or any recalls at that time.

The TIPM is a cause of the vehicle horn honking, wipers moving on their own, wiper fluid spraying, and the lights flashing by themselves. I have had the vehicle randomly stall by itself on the highway while my wife was driving it and this has happened several times. These issues seem to mysteriously go away when I try to diagnose the issue. Last week the battery died and because of it being a few years old and now being in the winter, I decided to replace it only to have it die again a day later. Took the vehicle to a mechanic who tested the charging system and said it was all good. Then proceeded to do a parasitic draw test where he determined that the TIPM was causing the issues. I did some Google searches and found that this is a widestream problem with many owners of various Chrysler vehicles having the same issue. This IS NOT safe especially when the vehicle shuts down while driving it and there are no power brakes or steering capabilities. A person could end up in a terrible accident or even be killed not to mention other drivers being at risk also. Doesn't seem to make much sense that Chrysler is dragging this on and not doing anything not to mention that I can't even order the part because it's on a national back order.

I have been having problems with the electrical system in my 2008 Chrysler Town and Country minivan. The van acts possessed. When you are driving down the road the windshield wipers go uncontrollably, the head lights flash on and off, the gauges on the dashboard go up and down and all of the safety lights come on and off. The windows will not work while this is happening and the lights in the van will go on and off. The navigation screen will go off and on. The driver seat will move randomly forward and backward while you are driving down the road. You can't stop it and you have to adjust your foot on the pedal to keep from wrecking. Chrysler will not do anything to help because it's not under warranty and the Chrysler dealership thinks it's the TIPM motor and battery. The estimate is over $1000 to fix the problem.

It is absolutely terrifying to drive this van while all of these things are happening. I do not feel safe putting my family in this van.

I am a single mom with two kids in College and low income so when I first notice this problem start, I thought ok, just a flook, can;t afford a big repair, so no big deal. Within this past year, about three times, while driving and also in part position, my 2008 Town and Country, decided to blow horn uncontrollably and windshield wipers go on fast while spraying, for no reason. Now , just this July after doing key ignition recall, car really became possessed.

I approached my car, pressed the open button on my key, and car started honking ,wipers going fast and door wouldn't open. I had to take out actual key to open car. Turned car on to turn off wipers, etc. but to no avail. A gentleman came by and told me to turn car off and he unplugged my battery, since this happened before and wouldn't stop until it drained battery. Horn was still going off and wipers and spray on, also car was still revving, running. We were both in amaze. Key in my hand and battery disconnected and car running? I knew then, I had to get this car checked.

An electrician told me that only dealership, Chrysler, could check this problem. They have been having a lot of issues like this and they need to diagnose with their equipment, most likely TIPM problem. I called Chrysler for help but they didn't get back to me. I had to take a trip to New Jersey so decide to try driving car. When I turned car on, I realized I did NOT have AC. On the hottest day of the summer, I had to drive that without AC. Coming back home Car started with AC working and everything felt fine. While on highway Ac starts going on and off. After a few minutes, my headlights start blinking, then completely went off in a dark highway as I was going 65mph. I had to pull over to the shoulder, as I couldn't see, and turn car off. Waited a few minutes, lights came back on but didn't look as bright as they should be. tried driving again since I needed to get home.

While driving again wipers start going off and spraying, no horn, had to pull over to the shoulder again. Wondering why no horn, I tried the horn, realizing, my horn is dead. Trying not to panic, and praying I can make it home safely, I stayed on the shoulder til wipers calmed down. Tried Driving again... Felt the gas pedals sluggish but kept driving. After Feeling a little calmer and more comfortable on the highway, I moved to the middle lane, mistake!!!! Car started slowing down on its own while i was pressing gas pedal harder, car wouldn't accelerate. Luckily there wasn't a lot of traffic, late at night, cause I could have been in a major accident. I put my hazard lights on and again had to pull over to the shoulder. Turned car off and waited quite a few minutes to let car cool off. Tried driving again and when I pressed gas pedal lightly car revved at over 5 to 6 revs causing car to jerk forward really fast, had to go back to shoulder. Waited a good 20 minutes, tried to go several times by pressing gas, if it felt like it was revving to fast , I would stop. Finally I got to get car to work somewhat and drove it under 50mph the rest of the way home.

It was a very scary experience for my daughter, who was in the car with me, and myself. I called the dealership back next day, who told me, after hanging up on me, then keeping me on hold forever, that they didn't have appointment for over a week. I argued with them, that this is serious, so I was told to bring it in the next day. It would cost me $420, just to diagnose problem but if I had them do the work, that would go towards my cost to repair. What a way to unsure you don't take it anywhere else , but them, wow!! Got a call next day, sure enough TIPM, two horns blown out and battery very week because it took a beating, due to this problem. Have to pay for TIPM replacement, repair of two horns, that were blown out because of Faulty TIPM and new battery also cause of Faulty TIPM.

Chrysler knows this is an issue with faulty TIPM, and won't grant a RECALL, or give you a DISCOUNT or even provide you with a RENTAL, while car is in the shop. the also over price repair because you have no other choice but to pay them. I read average price for repair was $1200, I'm paying $1800, ($800 for part and the rest for two horns, battery and LABOR!!!! What a SHAME!!!! Something needs to done. I just got myself into major debt, single mom with two kids in College.

Yesterday I got in my van and as soon as I turned it on I noticed that my dash light were flashing. I put the van in reverse and my horn honked a couple times on its own, then the windshield washer fluid started spraying. I drove straight to Auto Zone to have them put it on their machine to check to see what the problem was. Auto Zone showed no problems. I continued on to my destination with no more problems.

Today the same thing happened only worse!! My horn started blaring and did not stop windshield wipers both front and back were going!!! And all of my lights were on (parking lights, headlights, reverse lights)!! I turned the van off and got out horn still blaring and wipers still going, opened hood and realized the damn van was also still running!!!!!! No key in the ignition!!! Long story short I had to unplug the battery and alternator to stop the madness!!!

Now I find out it is the TIPM and its going to cost over $1000!!!! I have to double check and see if my extended warranty is going to cover it but I'm almost sure it won't!!! I am going to be more than irate if I have to come out of pocket to fix something that obviously is faulty and should be recalled!!!!!!!! CHRYSLER!!!!

Brake light was staying on. They said brakes need replacing, estimate from dealer $1200. (they replaced brake pads with lifetime warranty 10,000 miles earlier) Took vehicle to a licensed mechanic, he ordered parts. When I took vehicle to him he said everything was OK with brakes. Because he already ordered and paid for parts I had him to the job anyway. Cost only $35 for parts labor etc.. Brake light still was on.

Took vehicle to another dealer with a good reputation. They said it was the TIPM. Had it replaced, cost around $1,000. Brake light still stayed on. Finally another tech there, who specializes in electrical problems found that the problem was a faulty parking brake light switch. Cost $200.

Now engine light warning light came on indicating a EGR valve was getting a high reading but Earlier (about a month or so the first dealer placed it for $450.00. I feel that the don't know what is going on or they don't have the training to recognize the problems. Service advisers work on commission which tells me that the only thing they want to do is run up the bill.

I also had a recall on WIN and FOBIK but they said there was recall on the recall. My vehicle had shut off and it would not start or couldn't get it out of park. Had car towed to dealer, They said it would cost around$200 for anew FOBIK and programming. After doing that they called and said it didn't work and I needed a WIN module (even though it had been recalled I had to pay for it, $800,

My 2008 Chrysler T&C has been having intermittent starting problems for over a year. This situation has lead me to replace 2 batteries (per recommendation from Hayes Chrysler in Lawrenceville, GA). I also had my starter replaced ~ $500. All the while I have been waiting on the parts for the warranty recall with the faulty ignition/FOB which the dealership never has in stock.

Finally the vehicle basically died and we could not get it to start at all and the dealership told us they had no service appointments open for over 3 weeks. I was left with no option other than taking the mini-van to a reputable local repair shop, K&R, in Lawrenceville, GA. The shop confirmed the problem was a bad TIPM and provided an estimate with parts & labor of $960.

I did a little online research and learned of the many other Chrysler owners that have paid out of pocket for replacing the TIPM. What rubs me the most is we paid for an extended warranty up to 100K miles and the dealership never diagnosed issues with the TIPM when I had the Minivan in the shop for starting problems. Chrysler needs to issue a total recall and reimburse owners who have paid out of pocket to replace defective parts.

gauges, wipers, lights go off & on while driving

while driving this van. the seat starts moving back and forth and the lights and gauges and the wiper start going off and on and the gauges do not register your speed or fuel amount . i have had this car in the shop at the deal ship where we bought it and going on 6 weeks there still is not a fix for this problem. i have finally taken the car to another mechanic and in another town. he told me after i showed him the video of what the car was doing and he had it a week and he told me he would not trust this vehicle at all to put his family in. he advised me that he did research on this model and there or more problems that could happen with this type of electrical problem. like my brakes locking down or the cruise becoming stuck and not being able to stop the car. or the motor locking down. i have as of july 4 took the car back to the dealer ship and showed them the video and they have called this mechanic and visited with him about this car. the dealer ship has still got the car and have found nothing but it has acted up with them while they were driving it. but still cant fix it nor will they furnish me a loner till they fix my car. i have a 4yr old, 2yr old and a 2 week old and i am a foot till the dealer ship fixes my car and they cant give me a time or how long it will take. i am very frustrated with the run around i am getting and i dont knows from this dealer ship and their machinics. i know that theses things take time but having my car this long and the dealer ship not giving me a loaner to drive till then is stupid. i am a single mother that has to get kids to school and get to work. i think something should be done to see why this dealer ship cant find or make things right. i am a paying customer and have gotten other cars from them. but i will never deal with this dealer ship or buy another chrysler again.

Pushed the unlock button on the key fob one day and the horn started blaring, windshield washer spraying, front and rear wipers running, doors locking/unlocking. I had to get the hard key out of the fob to unlock the doors and pop the hood to disconnect the battery. The problem cleared randomly. This has happened about 7 times. I finally decided to pull the fusses for the horn as not to annoy the neighbors. The next time it went off, I heard clicking noises from the fuse box under the hood. I tapped the fuse box the problem stopped. I don't notice anything suspicious that might be causing this. This has also happened while driving creating a dangerous situation. The problem has also been triggered while trying to open the door while locked. Based on the other complaints, I think this really needs to be a recall. The vehicle is great otherwise. It is a shame when you think you have a good vehicle and then something like this happens. I do not feel safe driving my family in the van.

Wife called me from work stating that she walked up to the car and hit the unlock button on the key fob and the car horn went off, windshield wipers went crazy, fluid spurting out and nothing would stop it - she thought she hit the panic button but did not. She also stated that the car started up on its on without the key being placed in the ignition and we DO NOT have a remote starter on the vehicle.

I arrived and someone had pulled the cable off of the battery and the problem had stopped. I re-attached the cable and went to unlock the door and it again started to do the above things, I removed the cable and let it sit for a few minutes at which time I re-attached it once again, I got in the vehicle and at first it refused to start but eventually turned over and started and I was able to drive it home without incident. 3 am the night I drove it home we were awakened to the same problem stated above and I had to run out of the house half asleep to take the battery cable off. Now I have a van which we have only had for 4 months sitting in the driveway that my wife is rightfully scared to drive and pretty much useless because we certainly don't have $1,000-$2,000 to fork over and get it fixed because it's not under warranty anymore.

It started with the right rear turn signal. It would work sometimes, then not others. I tried replacing the bulb, checking the fuses, cleaning connections, but it kept coming back.

Now the Left rear turn signal isn't working, so I did the same thing, hoping that it was something simple. I found a blown fuse, and replaced it, but as soon as I turned the lights on, it killed another fuse. You can hear it happen as soon as you turn on the lights too.

Our mechanic says it's probably the TIPM, but he isn't able to fix it for us. Checked on-line and just the part is over $600, not including installation! I can't just stop driving, and I can't afford to drop a grand to fix this thing. If Chrysler knows this is a problem, issue a recall!!!

On September 10,2014, my wife was driving home from work while talking to me on the cell..I was a witness(hearing first then seeing for myself) to our 2008 Chrysler Town and Country limited acting like it was possessed! The first thing she said was that it seemed like the a/c controls weren't working right, then the radio, and then..the money shot...all of a sudden the horn started blowing like crazy, and wiper fluid started spurting out without the wipers going!

Fortunately she was only about three minutes from the house, and by the time she got the van home the wipers were going full blast and the only way to shut down this thing was to disconnect the battery which we did...this was on the heels of just getting it back from our dealer after having the ignition key fail to release or allow it to start , and having it towed 75 miles back to our hometown!

The next morning I drove it over to the dealer just in case it did this again which it didn't do,but not before I googled these symptoms to see if this was an isolated situation,or others had experienced it..to my surprise and utter dismay.this and other sites came up where I saw that this is far from an isolated case! That's where I first found out about the TIPM being the likely cause..it was like pulling teeth to get my service adviser at the dealer to admit that they had heard of or seen this before! I called my extended warranty company after finding out that the repair was going to cost $916.00 and they informed me that NONE of that was covered!

I then called Chrysler(not a dealer, the company) and registered a formal complaint with them, also inquiring whether a recall was already issued or going to be and they said no! They said there was not enough evidence to support that this was a dangerous or safety-related issue, but they would keep my complaint on file and take it under advisement...I advised them that if they weren't already aware there is at least one lawsuit pending about this very issue, and was far from done with this!

Once we got the van back after being fixed and shelling out the $916.00 we pretty much let it sit for a few days and drove our other vehicles..the first day we drove it again the problem appeared resolved, but now a new gremlin has appeared..the radio with the NAV and Mygig system has decided to act up and turn on and off sporadically...I don't feel this vehicle is safe any more for my family to be in or drive...

CHRYSLER NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIX THESE ISSUES BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT OR WORSE..anyone else involved in the lawsuit I would love to hear from you!

I have to disconnect the battery cable every time I'm done driving for the day or it won't start the next day.I can't get this vehicle inspected with the check engine light on. The part has been on back order for weeks.

Update from Sep 25, 2014: I had to have the TIPM module replaced. The cost was $581.00 for the part and $222.00 for the installation and programming. I haven't heard from Chrysler as of yet (9/25/2014). I was told that Chrysler has admitted to the TIPM problenm and that they would contact me but haven't yet.

Update from Nov 10, 2014: Had to have the TIPM module replaced before I could get the vehicle inspected and it cost me over $800.00. I stopped back at the Chrysler Dealership twice since then and there is still no recall on the TIPM module even though Chrysler has admitted to the part being faulty.
