problem #10

May 102018

Town & Country Limited 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Starter solenoid clicks but won't start. Battery good. Wrecker tried jump box. Towed to garage and unloaded and it started. Starter replaced twice. May go several days before not starting again. Let it set or try 3 or 4 times and it may start. Brother in law listened yesterday and said that the starter is trying to engage. Started to call wrecker and shifted into neutral and it started. This morning it started twice. Possible problem? Bad battery cables? TIPM module? (as one mechanical suggested). Or something else??? No other electrical problems. Have not had chance to see if shifting to neutral would allow it to start again.

HELP!

Town & Country Touring 3.8L V6

I drove the 2008 Chrysler Town and Country to the store. Had a real hard time getting the key to do anything. It finally turned on the ignition and I drove it to store. When I came out and tried to restart it, it didn't start or even seem to recognize the key at all. Tried for and hour with no luck. Had to be towed home. Found out there is a massive recall on the ignition module, WIN module. They told me it is bad and I would be without the van for several months. Part needed to replace was $1100 plus another $500 and whatever fee to reprogram keys.

I have had it with this big pile of junk, can't depend on it. I came out and found the drivers side passenger door had opened electrically and the horn and wipers blaring, had to disconnect battery. I took my loss and let the bank repo it. The person that got it sure got their hands full, but at least I no longer own it and never will own another Chrysler product. Bought a GM product and it works as it should, nice cold air also. Bye Bye Chysler.

Last week the battery died and because of it being a few years old and now being in the winter, I decided to replace it only to have it die again a day later. Took the vehicle to a mechanic who tested the charging system and said it was all good. Then proceeded to do a parasitic draw test where he determined that the TIPM was causing the issues. I did some Google searches and found that this is a widestream problem with many owners of various Chrysler vehicles having the same issue. This IS NOT safe especially when the vehicle shuts down while driving it and there are no power brakes or steering capabilities. A person could end up in a terrible accident or even be killed not to mention other drivers being at risk also. Doesn't seem to make much sense that Chrysler is dragging this on and not doing anything not to mention that I can't even order the part because it's on a national back order.

Have had this problem since we purchased in 2010 (used). CarMax can't fix. Chrysler says replace the battery. We have replaced the battery 4 times! Oh yeah, replaced starter too. It is not a battery or starter problem. It sounds like the car is draining the battery or the TIPM is faulty. Now the warranty is expired and I can't afford to replace parts.
