The van does not start at times. The ignition switch will be turned as if to fire up and there is no connection, it just clicks. I bought this vehicle used from sign it/drive it in denton, tx on April 21, 2018. It has not started over 45 times since I have had it and it is always from the crank-up position (meaning it has never just cut off). I have changed the starter, battery, crank sensor, as well as the starter relay fuse. I know there is a recall on the 2009 year, make, and model for the exact same thing. I believe it is in this 2008 model too.

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Town and country. While driving at unknown speeds, the electrical system went haywire. The contact stated that the vehicle lighting flashed on and off, the instrument panel gauges went to zero, and the doors could not be opened. The contact pulled over and stopped the vehicle. The vehicle eventually returned to normal, but the failures recurred before the contact arrived home. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was old and offered no assistance. The contact believed that the failures could be due to faulty wiring on the driver's door. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 200,000.

Vehicle was stationary and parked for hours in the driveway. For no reason the alarm went off on my car. Found key fob to shut off alarm. Daughter went to see what happened, then came to tell me there was smoke coming from my rear passenger sliding door. Went outside and heard noise that door was trying to open. Used key fob to try to unlock door. Tried to manually open door. Door wouldn't open and smoke continued. Didn't know if fire was inside door and was parked by garage so called 911 to put out potential fire. Concerned that there was electrical problem so continued to park car in street not close to house. Called Chrysler customer service and they said they would send an investigator due to concern of fire. Dealer said problem was due to a broken door latch and mechanical assembly mechanism needed to be replaced in addition to door handle for $1200, but didn't want to get work done until I got the information from the investigation. About 3 weeks later got a letter from Chrysler special investigations. They said due to the age and mileage of my vehicle, there are a number of factors outside the manufacturer's control that could have been contributed to your incident. Updated 10/30/18

Intermittently, while driving, the driver's seat with activate and move backwards a few inches and then forwards a few inches. This is often accompanied by an audible chime and the dashboard lights flashing on once. The speedometer and tachometer will also briefly start to drop toward 0 when the dashboard lights flash on before returning to normal when the dashboard lights turn off. The movement of the driver's seat while actively driving could be a serious safety issue when it occurs unexpectedly or if it were to happen to move all the way forward or backward. This behavior at times will repeat every minute or so. Other times it will not occur for several days.

The van will shut off while driving on the road the steering and brakes didn't work, I have to make sure I make it to the side of the road because it doesn't always want to start. It could be 5 or 10 minutes before I get it to start and I have had to leave it on the side of the road over night until the next day and have a tow truck pick it up.. I could of been killed or killed someone else. The horn, windshield wipers and window wiper water is spraying, flash lights flashing randomly go on at any time some times while I'm driving, some times late at night and the only way to stop all of this is to disconnect the battery or let it keep going until the battery drains. The speedometer goes on when I open the door but when I turn the vehicle on the speedometer goes off/blank. This scares me I'm afraid to drive it!

Just replaced my battery from aaa and was told everything else is good just my battery is completely drained and this morning I could not start my car at all then later it started but I got stuck at work now and it wont start at all not even a jump will help. Also while driving it goes crazy from time to time and the speedometer shoots up soo high that I get scared and have to hold on tight to the steering wheel. My ac works when it wants too and in Jan I was told my van's back calipers are shot. I was driving for a year with no back calipers meanwhile the front one got stuck and turned bright red and I had to get that one replaced last year. Its just one problem after another. I feel like im constantly replacing something.

My wife was driving on two different occasions and the van stalled, completely powered off. All electrical systems suddenly started acting in very abnormal ways. The wipers turned on as well as sprayed. The horn started going off, the locks on the doors gut stuck. All warning lights on the dashboard turned on. The ac quit working. The biggest problem is the two occasions the van just quit working going 40 to 60mph and the brakes and power steering not responding. This I think is major safety issues because my two little kids were with her in the van.

On 6/25, while driving down the highway I experienced some type of a power surge. The car started bucking, the A/C went off the horn started going off, the wipers started going off, the engine started revving. I was able to get off the parkway and pull into a parking lot. The things kept on happening until I turned the vehicle off. I tried to restart the vehicle, but it seemed like the vehicle was dead. Nothing worked. I had to have the vehicle towed to my house. On 6/27 I tried to start the vehicle and it srarted right up. I turned it off and tried to restart it, but again everything was dead. On 6/30 without doing anything the lights in the vehicle started flashing, the rear windshield washer started squirted washer fluid until it was empty, but the washer motor kept on operating. This lasted for about 20 minutes until it finally stopped. I attemptd to start the vehicle, but once again everything was dead. I was actually afraid while I was driving the vehicle, because of all the safety implications. When is a safety recall going to be issued? these problems could have deadly results.

Vehicle failed to start while parked in our driveway. Had battery, starter, alternator relays tested and no problems found. Had vehicle towed to dealer, who just informed me that ignition module kit & key fobs must be replaced in order to start engine, cost $902 + tax. We had this same problem in Aug. 2012, and again in June 2015 we had recall repair done. This will be the third tignition module & set of keys. Apparently Chrysler permanent solution lasts 3 years.

Electrical system - tipm: Starter fuse relay is malfunctioning causing the starter to intermediately not work. Problems when it malfunctions: The starter cranks but won't start. Other times the starter will start to crank and the tipm sends a message to the starter causing it to short circuit. This has been going on off and on since 5/15/2017.
