Town & Country

  • Automatic transmission

I have a 2005 Town and Country with 198,000 miles on it. It's been well taken care of! Several weeks ago, I noticed when traveling a long distance on the interstate that the steering started making a really loud whining noise, after we pulled in our driveway and turned the wheel the sound was worse. It would go away on it's own after driving at slower speeds around town. Fluid level was fine. My husband thinks it's the power steering pump. I am hoping this will be an easy fix. I will not be taking any trips on the interstate for fear of this happening again. Our children drive this car also. It seems that alot of people are having problems with this year, model and make.

Thank you

One day I found that the power steering had gone out. The dealership determined it was the power steering pump that needed to be replaced.

Town & Country Limited 3.6L

  • Manual transmission
  • 62,000 miles

We have the 2005 Chrysler Town n Country. The first problem we had with the power steering was that it was leaking fluid and felt hard to turn at times. This was around 50k miles. I added more fluid then took it to the dealership (we have the extended warranty). They wanted to charge us $90 to add some fluid to help repair the leak. Sounded like a con to me so I passed, they ended up draining the fluid and adding new. We are now up to 88k miles and the fluid is leaking again and has a loud whining noise. Wouldn't you know it my extended warranty ended at 80k miles!

Town & Country V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

Recurring problem with power steering pump on the Town and Country. Made a loud howling as if running at high speed while driving. Independent garage reported it was not maintaining pressure and I believe fixed it with a new pump. It occurred again a year or two later after a dealership had been doing unrelated work on the car. Took it back to the independent garage who found that the steering fluid was foaming. Replaced with a synthetic power steering fluid and the problem has not yet recurred.
