CarComplaints.com Notes: What the heck happened here? A year after getting our "seal of pretty good" for the 2004, Chrysler turns around and delivers this crapwagon.
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Headlights won't turn on when headlight switch is turned on. From inside the vehicle, it appears the headlights are on, but if you look at the headlights they are not illuminated. To make sure the lights are on, the vehicle has to be started, the headlight switch turned on, and the driver or passenger must get out of the vehicle to visually check if the headlights are on. If they aren't, the headlight switch must be turned on and off several times before the lights will work. The headlight failure occurs about every other time the headlights are required. The dealership reprogrammed the BCM, but that did not help and they can't figure out the problem.
Headlights frequently don't come on when turned on. Sometimes, if I turn the switch over and over again, they will turn on. Also, the high level head lights don't stay on unless I hold the level to keep them on.
Several times over the past few years, the headlights would not turn on. Also several times, the headlights would just shut off while driving. The parking lights would stay on. Usually we could get the headlights to come back on after trying to turn them on and off several times via the switch. The most recent was yesterday, 20 May.
While driving down the road at night on the 15th of may, 2010, the vehicle headlights went out several times. I was eventually able to get them to come back on, but can not state how. It first happened while turning the bright lights off, but later occurred without using the brights. The main light switch also appeared not to matter. A few times, I cycled the main light switch and they came back on. Most times, I would cycle the main lighting switch and the lights would not turn on. Searching the internet, it appears that this is a known intermittent problem with both Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town and country mini-vans. This happened again this morning when attempting to leave. It took several minutes to get the light to turn on.
Headlights and console lights on my 2005 T&C go out while driving. They come back on within a second or two. I had the switch checked and was found to be working ok.
The headlight switch on my 2005 Chrysler Town and country malfunctions. It regularly fails to turn the headlights on and will shut off the head lights while driving down the road.
My headlights will just shut off while driving on my 2005 Chrysler Town & Country. This happens frequently at night, so I am indoors after dark. I can turn the switch multiple times and they usually come on. And now, the state of Ohio passed a law that if you use your wipers, you must have your headlights on. So when I get a ticket because they shut off without my knowledge in daylight hours, who pays my fine? I am going to get it repaired this week, but its still a dangerous situation until then!
Headlamps go off intermittently. Movement of headlamp switch will turn them back on, but, interior lights are dead when opening door and overhead computer is dead when lights are on. Dangerous situation for the headlamps as it could cause a wreck. Reading online blogs this seems to be a bad problem with the 2005 model year Chrysler Town and country's and Dodge Caravan's. does someone have to get killed first to warrant an NHTSA investigation? I did a search on investigations for my vehicle year and type and only found the air bag investigations. This is a very common issue with not only my year but other years of Chrysler mini-vans. It needs attention!
I have a 2005 Chrysler Town and country that from the day we got it the head lights and interior lights flicker. Each time we take it in the dealer can't find a problem. Now the head lights and interior lights flash on and off but not continuously. Again, the dealer can't find the problem.
My headlights go off while driving at night. It has been a inconsistent problem for months now. I is a very dangerous condition. I would appreciate your resolution.
Driving our 05 Town & Country in heavy traffic through a construction zone on a rainy night, the headlights suddenly stopped working. My 2 babies were in the car with us, and thankfully the headlights failed near the end of the construction zone, and we were able to pull off the road and avoid an accident. Searching the internet when we got home, we discovered that this is a known issue with the Caravan / Town & Country. Please force a recall before people are seriously injured or killed.
Shortly after purchasing the vehicle (new) the headlights would occasionally not turn on. The dealer would not do anything without seeing the problem till the warranty ran out, then they offered to sell one to me. The problem would occur 1-2X per month more or less till now. Tonight the lights continued to turn on and off while driving on the interstate. Reading online tonight it looks like many more owners are experiencing similar issues.
Headlights go off while driving. Sometimes the lights come back on after a few seconds, after turning the switch on and off repeatedly or sometimes the light do not come on until after the vehicle is stopped and ignition turn off and vehicle restarted. The problem is suppose to be a multifunction switch. When you are driving 55 mph down the road, this is not safe.
2005 Chrysler Town and country. Door locks, auto seat adjustment, dvd player and turn signals all stop working, or working intermittently. The work around is to remove and replace iod 20 amp fuse, resetting the BCM computer.
