If you tap the key when you are driving it shuts the motor off. The steering locks and you have no control over car. It does this in reverse and drive also.
2005 Chrysler Town and country mini van the consumer purchased new on June 17, 2005 and it caught on fire. On August 8,2005 smelled something coming from the engine. Opened the hood and there was a fire in the air filter/air conditioner area. Called 911, they came out and checked, but the fire was already out by the time they got there. The fire chief was unable to determine the cause of the fire. Vehicle was towed to a Chrysler dealer. After 1 week the car dealer told the consumer that the vehicle had to be inspected by an independent investigator that Chrysler employed. After he investigated the vehicle he was unable to determine the cause of the fire. Chrysler gave no explanation, only that they were going to pay off the vehicle, and they would reimbursed. Consumer for any down payment and any payment made since then. The consumer reported this insurance company. According to Chrysler they were treating the transaction as if it had never occurred.
The consumer stated the vehicle stalled three times. The service dealer repaired a loose ground wire and replaced the PCM. Dealer was not able to duplicate the problem so the vehicle could not be repaired. Because the dealer was not able to duplicate the problem they were not having the Chrysler engineering department to look at the vehicle. Consumer had an opinion that the problem was within the automatic shutdown relay.
While driving at 50 mph the engine just stopped. But the radio was still playing. Pulled over, turned off engine, and then restarted the engine. Vehicle was taken to dealer. They drove it 106, ran diagnostic test, and called manufacturer. Could not find anything wrong with the car. Consumer refused to drive this vehicle. The first event occurred on the 6th of May. The second occurred on the 9th of May.
