CarComplaints.com Notes: What the heck happened here? A year after getting our "seal of pretty good" for the 2004, Chrysler turns around and delivers this crapwagon.

This minivan has problems ranging from rack and pinion steering failure to door locks that won't let you out. And trust me, you'll want to get out.

Town & Country Touring 3.6L

The problem is the dashboard dials start to go haywire, flickering lights, radio goes on or off at random, and this all starts when I want to use the air conditioner and radio at the same time, This issue is all over the internet, and the Chrysler dealer acts as they never heard of this issue before!!! Hard to believe, though I think it is a design problem, it gets so bad, that when driving the motor shuts off!! This is very dangerous because the brakes do not work, power steering shuts down and nothing works. Someone can get Killed!!!

I then took the van to a reputable electro mechanic who had the car for two weeks replaced the computer twice. This cost me around 1800.00 dollars for their work and I still have the same issue. When the problem is about to come back, I know, because the tell tale signs are: the dash board lights starts to get wavy and flutter, then it gets worse if I let it go. The only way to clear it for a couple of months is to disconnect the wires from the brand new battery (I've bought in the last five years three batteries).

Take the Negative and the Positive Wires and cross them for an at least 1 hour. This somehow resets the computer or some timing sequence in the TPM. I can go for maybe three months without the issue ONLY IF I LIMIT THE USE OF THE AIR CONDITIONER AND RADIO. I CANNOT USE BOTH AT THE SAME TIME OR ELSE THE ISSUE STARTS AGAIN!!!

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP I AM FED UP!! CHRYSLER SAYING THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THIS IS BULL!!!

Town & Country Touring

  • Automatic transmission
  • 158,750 miles

Cold, icy, rainy January morning. Going slow due to icing. About 27 miles into trip, dash lights and gauges went offline, engine raced and nearly died. Turned around and headed home. Sporadic off and on of dash and radio throughout the return drive. When shut off at home, would not start. Battery connections were fine, no blown fuses that I could find, alternator appeared intact and serpentine belt in place. Ideas?

Town & Country Limited 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 97,400 miles

This problem has been happening off and on the last year at least 30 times and is getting serious. First we hear a warning ding, then all the warning lights in the dash go on and off, the speedo and tach act erratically and the engine dies. Usually I can put it in neutral while still rolling and restart the engine. Lately it's been getting worse with the engine dying and unable to start for 1 to 2 minutes.

We called the Chrysler dealer and they informed us that they haven't heard of this problem but bring it on in. I find it hard to believe that they haven't heard of this with all the similar problems I've read on the internet.
