This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 1998 Chrysler Town and country. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and the battery, ABS, trac off, and seat belt warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was unable to restart. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 146,986.
Airbag deploy while driving 55mph middle lane, could not see, van filled with smoke, almost crash with my 3 children in van, injury burns on arms ignition failed 4 times replaced 2X under warranty
Battery totally dead at 19000 miles (20 months-orig. Battery), 31K miles (39 months-1st replacement) and now 40K miles (52 months-2nd replacement). There are no warning signs that battery is getting weak. First two times diagnosis was just that battery wouldn't hold a charge-->replace battery. I previously have asked for a more in depth diagnosis to find root cause of why battery wouldn't hold a charge. Now that vehicle is out of warranty, dealer is happy to do the $70 diagnosis. If that had been done the first time (under warranty), I probably wouldn't have had to come back the second and now third time for the same problem!
