This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
While driving 45 mph electrical system failed. As a result, headlights/windshield wipers, and horn failed. Vehicle was taken to the dealership, and mechanic determined that electrical wiring harness failed, and it will cost $1300 at consumer's expense to fix it. The harness was installed at the factory under the battery. The battery corroded and acid leaked onto the harness which caused varying electrical problems.
The evaporator heater coil and expansion valve malfunctioned. Prior to this, the air conditioner was not cooling the van. This happened since January 2002. The consumer was told by the manufacturer there was no recall on the above parts. The battery had been replaced on four occasions, the rear brake drums, the serpentine belt and tensioner had been replaced. Also the horn, driver seat rack and grill were replaced.
The original battery failed at 27,000 miles and was replaced in March 1999 with a new 60 month battery. Now 17 months later the battery has failed again and was told by the dealer that the battery had to be replaced. There seems to be an issue with the short life of batteries in these minivans. A side note is my sister inlaw has a 98 T&C with 26K and her battery needed to be replaced. Please provide any information that you have on this. Thanks!
