Sebring 2.4L 4-cyl

I bought this car used in Dec 2015 at 61,000 miles. It worked great for the first 8 months or so until it overheated. In Dec 2016, I had to get the thermostat and timing belt replaced along with the water pan because it was damaged/corroded. Then this month, Apr 2016, my oil light would sporadically come on and stay on for no longer than 30 seconds. I had to add another quart every 2-4 weeks. Then, it overheated and began stalling out. I was able to get it into a parking lot and out of the road, but it stalled out to the point that it wouldn't restart.

I took it in, and the radiator hose (which caused the overheating) fix was only $25. They also told me that I had engine knock and the entire engine would need to be replaced but that it would be almost impossible to find one with less mileage. I wanted to take it for a second opinion and was planning on taking it in at the end of the week.

The day after I got it out of the shop, it was clanking and rumbling, wouldn't accelerate beyond 40 and took ages to get there, and then stalled out in a turn lane. I took it to a different shop, and they confirmed the engine knock. They've quoted me $4,600 for a new engine, only slightly less used. They said they've had this problem with my engine type consistently before, and putting a used one in is NOT worth it.

I bought the car for $4,700 and have already put a few thousand in for the timing belt, thermostat, etc. I only need it until the end of this summer, so putting more than what it's worth back into it doesn't make sense.

Popped a seal and started to leak oil. Learned that Chrysler machined this engine poorly and that the crank shaft wobbles, popping the seals, which ultimately ate a hole in the aluminum casing. And surprise surprise.... Chrysler would not recall it. F you too Chrysler!!! Never again!!!

Sebring Sedan 2.4L V6

i have a 2005 chrysler sebring sedan. I was going to work and it just quit running. I have changed the camshaft sensor and I have changed the crankshaft sensor and checked to see if the spark plugs were firing, none of them were. I looked on my car codes and it keeps telling me its the camshaft sensor. my car has been at the chrysler dealership for almost two months and they haven't fixed it. they tried telling me it was low compression. I told them no it wasn't, it had been checked and it had great compression. they just want 463.00 for breaking into my engine an that aint it.

Sebring Touring Signature Series 2.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,000 miles

I was told shortly after I purchased this car brand new in August of 2005 to make sure I changed the oil every 3,000 miles since the 2.7L engine was known for sludge problems. I did just that. I have never cared for a car better than I did this one. At 68,000 miles the timing chain had to be replaced. That was covered under warranty. Now at 78,000 miles the engine dies and of course its not covered. I just paid the car off in October 2010. What I'm really confused by is the fact that when this happened, my car showed no signs of problems. Engine didnt run rough, didnt run hot...nothing. My wife and kids had just drove the car 122 miles, and parked it in my in-laws driveway. An hour later i went out to start it and it was dead. Thought it was battery...was sure after process of elimination it was the starter. So i bought a new starter and took it to a certified mechanic i have used for over 15 yrs. He eventually tried cranking the engine over manually with a special bar tool and it didnt move. Now i will file a complaint with Chrysler. Even if they would pay for a new engine (ha ha) I will never buy another Chrysler product again. Never.

Sebring GTS 2.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

This was the perfect car I thought. I bought it in 2005, with 28,000 miles on it, and had no trouble until about a year ago. A mobile mechanic replaced battery and when I asked him about the oil light that came on when I started the car everyday, he said that meant the oil was not flowing through properly, and that because it went off as the car was driven, this meant the engine would eventually lock up, and told me about the oil sludge problems. I had heard about that last year when family was working on the engine to help save me money. I just prayed it didnt happen, although about a month after mechanic told me this it locked up on the highway at 10:00 pm, a very scary experience.

It makes me angry that Chrysler got out of this. I am on Disability, and the mechanic said my engine was so bad it is not rebuildable, and I cannot afford to fix this. I just got it paid off, and now have no transportation. Thanks Chrysler..and by the way, I took very care of my car and did all oil changes, and have receipts.
