Was 3/4 of the way through my 50 mile commute to work and hit a huge bump on I-96. (For those out of state, Michigan highways are AWFUL!) The car immediately changed in handling, started leaning side to side and pulling to the right. Every time I hit a bump of any kind there was a terrible clanking sound from the rear end. I got to work and checked under the car, everything seemed fine except for an obviously broken exhaust pipe bracket. Figured the clunking was that and drove 50 miles home, got inside, did some Googling and found out that this failure is extremely common among Sebrings. Checked with a flashlight and sure enough, the mounting bracket was cracked. My vehicle is now completely unsafe to drive. This problem occurs with EVERY Sebring at some point, because the brackets are a magnesium/aluminum composite that corrodes over time. Sebrings are time bombs. I'm now waiting for the day that well-known oil sludge issue hits me too. Will NEVER purchase another Chrysler product. Strike that right up there with Toyota on the lemon list.
