2001 Chrysler sebring lxi no horn, no cruise control, and air bag deactivated (light on) all three of these issues are due to a defective clock spring part# 4649092ac by Chrysler Corp. They had this same issue with their late 90's to early 2000 mini van's. this is a real threat to public safety, and there need to be action taken; do to the fact there are thousands of these clock springs (4649092ac) on the road. Do to the cost of this repair (check alldata auto repair guide), a lot of people will opt out of doing this repair.

Heard something rip or break inside steering wheel when pulling out of a parking space, followed by the air bag light turning on. No problems with steering, but fear a costly repair for the air bag and or clock spring mechanism. Had to replace hub bearings 3 times.
The airbags in 2001 Chrysler sebring did not deploy in a front impact crash* the consumer submitted a claim to the manufacturer, however it was denied. The manufacturers claimed, the impact didn't significantly involve the frame and it did not create the longitudinal (front to back) necessary to deploy the air bags. The conclusion was supported by the readings from the onboard computer that disclosed no codes-indicating that the airbag system was fully operational at the time of the accident.

My wife was in a frontal crash with enough impact to nearly push the engine into the passenger compartment. The car was totaled by the insurance company. The air bags never deployed. I believe this was defective equipment or design. I do have digital pictures that show the extent of damage.
Driver was involved in a frontal collision. Upon impact both frontal air bags failed to deploy. Driver sustained minor injuries. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.
Airbag/clockspring failure. Was in front end crash at 25-30mph and airbags did not go off. This was on 06-26-04 got the car fix at earnhardt auto body a five star dealer. On 10-09-04 the airbag light came on. So I took it back they said they would call my insurance to see if they would cover the work. They would if it was from the crash. The computer showed no error code so I had to pay. Body shop said they can't fix I would have to take to service.but the tech at body said it was a bad clockspring. So on 10-11-04 I took to service and they told me they would have to do a diagnostic which I had just paid for at there body shop. I told them this but this did'nt matter.but I need my car getting to work. So I let them keep it for a diagnostic. A few hours later they called and said it was a bad clockspring and it would cost about $481. Because my warranty was up in time not miles. Was up by abot a month and week or two. I ask them if this was a safety concern and they no. Call for more info on this story.
