Chrysler Sebring, Dodge avenger, or Mitsubishi eclispe driver and passenger door handles break off while trying to enter the vehicle. I have had to replace my passenger door handle once and now the driver side has broken and needs to be replaced. The dealer told me they are on back order. Why? because they break all of the time. I see vehicles riding down the road with new handles on both sides of the car. What if I were being chased and needed to get into my car to stop someone from attacking me and the handle broke off in my hand. What if I were then raped or worse someone found me dead all because I could not get into my car. Someone needs to look into the defect of these door handles.

In Sept. 2003 my driver door handle broke-off. Within 3 weeks, the passenger door handle broke as well. I've called Chrysler and they informed me that it was my problem. To replace the handle / latch cost around $125 for each door.

During the summer of 2003, my passenger side door handle fell off upon opening the door. I had not yet repaired this problem, but now the driver side door handle has fallen off. I have to keep my windows open to open my car doors. I hope the manufacturer will cover these costs as I have read about five similar cases reported on this website and I'm sure there are many more unreported cases. I only have 33,000 miles on my car, but the 3-year warranty has expired.
