I just bought a used 2017 Pacifica with 30,000 miles. It shifts Very Hard in passing Gear; about 60mph. A little less of a hard shift when shifting into lower gears. I explained to the Chrysler Tech that I’d taken it to another shop (to get the whole story on what I’d gotten myself into by purchasing this car.), to get their assessment. And that while I drove the car, the tech sat in the passenger seat and had his diagnostic computer on. It shifted hard (not as hard as it had on me 4 times prior) while he had his computer reading it. He said the voltage reading was at 8. and should have been at 14 point something.
The Chrysler tech, finally agreed to ride with me (because although I’d requested when signing it into the service department, he left without me), I wanted to be on the Tech’s test drive. He’d already test drove it, stating he likes to drive it himself first, he rolled his eyes, and said; that's just how these cars do.
He drove my car as if we were going to church, I requested he drive it a little faster, as one would in normal traffic, needing to merge in, or get out of someone’s way. He did a little sigh, and it did shift hard, but not as hard as it had done it on me the 4 times before, nor as hard as it did with the other technician. But it did shift hard, again he sighed and said, “that’s just how these cars doâ€. These hard shifts are HARD. I’ve owned many, many cars, this is NOT right!! The shifts are not as hard as some describe at low speeds as feeling as if they have been rear-ended. Any mounts under the hood will surely break loose and weaken from the force. Not to mention any connecting parts under the hood which in one way or another is ALL of them!!!
This forum requests separate problems to be separate entries, and I mention the batteries for a reason. I did mention to this Chrysler technician that the first tech said if the battery had every been out, it’s possible 2 of the computers in the transmission need re-set. And I had learned from viewing service records AFTER I bought the car, that the previous owner had to replace the battery twice before trading it in. His reply: “Sometimes, but not always; probably not.†The Chrysler Tech’s official diagnosis was written on the service order as, “CS that hard shift at highway speed, scanned vehicle for codes or updates, none found. Test drove with customer; told them this was normal for a 9 speed trans in Pacificasâ€.
I bet in their (lack of) training sessions, they mostly concentrate on mastering the art of the condescending looks and sighs as they act if they have never heard of such a thing in their lives!! It's all over the internet and your site, most say at slow speeds it’s like being rear ended. Another person said he finally learned his problem with the hard shift was his car was never taken out of “demo†mode; that had to go above the local Chrysler dealership to a “main Chrysler facility/site" (wherever that is) to finally get it corrected. I bought this car to go on trips with my young grandchildren. Looks like the trips in this car will be to the shop!!
