The lights stay on. My GM dealership looked at it and this is my 6th visit in 4 weeks and still no resolution. They thought it might be my abs pump motor so they ordered a replacement @279.00, if that doesn't work they will order the control unit part of the pump motor k@ 500.00! So in desperation I went on the web and saw there are many many people with the same problem!
I also saw that sometimes it is an easy fix by checking that the grounding wire wasn't attached properly and I downloaded where to check....good thing I did because the mechanic told me he didn't even know where to look for the grounding! It worked for all of 2 days and I am back where I started. At my last appointment when the mechanic took it on the road (when he fixed the ground) he told me I had to drive it 200 miles so the emissions could reset itself....so I did! All the time during those 200 miles I went on the highway where it was 65 mph, I went through towns requiring slower speeds and stops, I stopped the car turned it off and back on and all was well. But when I got up the next morning, the same problem was there.
HELP!!!!! WHERE IS GM IN THIS MESS? THEY SHOULD HAVE ADDRESSED THIS PROBLEM A LONG TIME AGO!
Update from Aug 15, 2014: My car didn't have a prayer until I visited a nearby local mechanic. He replaced all rotors and brakes (which didn't have anything to do with the abs lights staying on) but were in bad shape which the GM mechanic didn't catch. He also found a used complete ABS module for $350 and installed it instead of buying the parts separately (control unit and the module). They had GM reprogram the vin # for the replacement part and it solved the problem. Don't take GM mechanic's word for the prices, find a good local mechanic that can check your car tail pipe to radiator! Sometimes a good old fashion mechanic with years under his belt has an alternative answer. Not counting the brakes and rotors, the total repair was $350 + $30 preprogram fee.
