CarComplaints.com Notes: Engine cradle rot is a serious problem in the 2004-05 Chrysler Pacifica. Chrysler admits they didn't apply enough coating to the vehicle's sub-frame during assembly, but only offered to cover a very small portion of the vehicles they messed up.

So what happens when your engine cradle rots? Well, the engine could fall out for starters. It could also cause problems with the suspension and other components but did I mention THE ENGINE CAN FALL OUT? The worst part is you might not know because there's no way to see the problem without getting under the car.

If you have a 2004-05 Pacifica, make sure to have your mechanic inspect your sub-frame for rust and corrosion.

First of all I love my Pacifica but, I have this problem and I hate to think about transmission problems. I see there's two other complaints on the same thing. Am I looking at a costly bill to fix?

Pacifica V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,400 miles

As I stated, I took the care to the dealer today and they said the Driver's Side Axle Nut was Not Torqued Properly, which caused a popping near the left front tire.

But I can still hear the other noise which is the clunk when you change gears on the car. I will give it about a week and take it back if it sounds worse.

Pacifica Limited 3.5L V%

  • Automatic transmission
  • 31,000 miles

I purchased my Pacifica Limited in July of 2005 and it has had problems from day one. First it was my heated seats not working properly, but only the front seats. Then it was a popping noise coming from the front suspension.... however the noise is only noticeable at slow speeds over bumpy road surfaces. Then the mother of all problems..... MY TRANSMISSION!! My transmission shifts out fine under regular driving, even the auto-shift feature works satisfactorily. However, when the car is sitting still and I shift from reverse to drive----or drive to reverse---or drive to park, there is a loud "clunk". Sometimes when there isn't a noticeable "clunk" there is still a vibration coming from the transmission that can be felt through the driver seat. I have an appointment to have all of the complaints that I have wrote about fixed at the dealership. Unfortunately, I did not purchase the extended warranty 7yr/70,000.... hopefully I can get everything repaired under the standard warranty, and my Pacifica just turned over 31,000 miles...... word to the wise... DO NOT PURCHASE A PACIFICA!!!!! They are nothing but trouble..........
