CarComplaints.com Notes: Engine cradle rot is a serious problem in the 2004-05 Chrysler Pacifica. Chrysler admits they didn't apply enough coating to the vehicle's sub-frame during assembly, but only offered to cover a very small portion of the vehicles they messed up.

So what happens when your engine cradle rots? Well, the engine could fall out for starters. It could also cause problems with the suspension and other components but did I mention THE ENGINE CAN FALL OUT? The worst part is you might not know because there's no way to see the problem without getting under the car.

If you have a 2004-05 Pacifica, make sure to have your mechanic inspect your sub-frame for rust and corrosion.

I PURCHASED THIS CAR FROM FLASH AUTO SALES BACK IN NOV OF 2016. I EXPERIENCED SOME PROBLEMS WITH CAR BACK IN FEB OF 2017 SO I WENT TO HAVE CAR FIXED AND WAS TOLD THAT THE CRADLE ROT ON VEHICLE WAS SO BAD THAT THEY WERE AFRAID TO FIX IT BECAUSE THEY SAID THE ENGINE WOULD FALL OUT. SO I REPORTED THIS TO CAR LOT AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD ORDER FRAME BUT IT NEVER HAPPENED. SO I HAD A PRICE QUOTE FOR CRADLE ROT REPAIR AND WAS TOLD $2000.00 TO REPAIR FRAME, YET I WAS STILL PAYING CAR NOTES!!! SO PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM FLASH AUTO THE OWNER IS NOT TRUTHFUL AND WOULD DO ANYTHING TO SALE CARS... ALSO I TRADED IN MY SON CAR FOR THAT PIECE OF GARBAGE I REALLY SHOULD HAVE KEPT HIS BMW.

I bought this vehicle from a used car lot 3 years ago. It had 72,000 miles on it and I checked underneath it like I do any car I buy. During the oil changes in those three years it wasn't discovered either. I took it in to trade and the dealer inspected it on a hoist and noticed it. There were two rust holes though the engine cradle and significant rust on the sides of the frame. It seems to me that when it starts to rust, it corrodes rather quickly. I put 15,000 miles on the Pacifica and washed it regularly with under-body washes included at local car washes.

Apparently this is a known issue with the model. The van is 13 years old and I took what I could get on the trade in at the dealership that noticed it. So much for Chrysler brand loyalty from me. Avoid this model at all costs! Judging from the volume of complaints Pacificas are lemons when it comes to frame rust!

Engine cradle rusted out right where the A/C water expelled. Mechanic shined flashlight through the holes in the cradle, so could have broke at anytime. Would have been very dangerous dropping engine and transmission on ground at high speed.

The engine cradle is rotting and rusting out. Took it to Chrysler for an oil change, before I left they called me into the shop to show me how rusted the cradle was, and rotting. They told me it is dangerous. I travel a lot on the highway and now I am thinking about the possibility of my engine falling out!! They also said it would cost me anywhere from $1600 to $2000 or more to repair!! Ridiculous!!!
