CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 is the worst year for PT Cruiser engine complaints. Having an engine light on is annoying, but it's the complaints about the engine shutting-off while driving that really have us concerned.

PT Cruiser 4 CYL

I have a 2006 Pt Cruiser Touring edition. Have had it 1 month in this time period I've had this happen countless times. To begin with the check engine is on. While driving the instrument lights come on briefly followed by a ding. This goes off and on during my drive home usually 45 minutes

WhIle driving it stutters acts like it will shut off, I hit the accelerateroad and it seems fine. While idling it spits and sputters, put it in drive & it's fine.

I had the check engine light read at Autozone, bad sparkplug on cylinder 2, I'll take care of that soon. Car shut off while slowing down near my home, started back no problems.

PT Cruiser Touring Edition 4 cyl Turbo

Car started running/idle rough @ 25K miles, now @ 54K miles and still can't get the problem fixed. It is NOT throwing a code, the engine light does NOT come, but it runs like it's going to die! Have done all scheduled and suggested maintenance, normally runs OK (not good) for about 1k miles after oil change and then gets worse? Dealership replaced plugs & wires before warranty was up (that's prior to 36k miles). Got this car because it had a lifetime drive train & transmission warranty but doesn't seem like the Dealership knows what to do or doesn't want to fix the problem. The same problem every few thousand miles for nearly 30K miles is past ridiculous. I'm at a loss for WHAT TO DO, but seems like I'm not the only one because there are tons of us PT cruiser owners abandoned out here with NO SOLUTION to speak of?? I understand they quit making the car, but Chrysler made it and they should stand behind their product and find a solution. Guess this is the type of thing that makes people steer clear of certain auto makers? Would really appreciate and answer or help in resolving the issue. I bought the PT Cruiser Convertible because I like the look and would like to keep it, but don't want to keep the unsolved problems. CHRYSLER... STEP-UP AND BACK YOUR PRODUCT!
