CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 is the worst year for PT Cruiser engine complaints. Having an engine light on is annoying, but it's the complaints about the engine shutting-off while driving that really have us concerned.

Got this car brand new in 2006 - I first saw it and thought it was the best looking convertible and I got one. For almost 9 years it gave me no problems and I enjoyed that convertible. Got many compliments. Then about 9 years in, my car just stalled and would not budge - but I could still use the radio. They diagnosed it that it needed a new TIPM (the power module)... I got one and it cost me about $600 at the dealership. The car has been shaking since - the engine has never been the same. There were many many problems that arose even though I would get the car repaired for it, and it costs me a lot of money. I even got new engine mounts (why does a dang car need engine mounts?!).

NOW, the replaced TIPM has gone bad again and my car is in limp mode and the engine is stiff and so I cannot drive it. It is coming up with code P0882 and a few others - but overall it is that car computer. It is making the engine and other parts overheat and act up. They say it will costs about two thousand to get it fixed. I like my car and did not want to part with it but I have to. I am going to sell it to a Salvage. Shame on car corporations making a car that runs by a computer. The computer was put in the cars to monitor them, but it is not the car that is bad, it is the dang computers. So now I have to toss away a good car because the dang computer is bad - this is stupid! SHAME.
