CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 is the worst year for PT Cruiser engine complaints. Having an engine light on is annoying, but it's the complaints about the engine shutting-off while driving that really have us concerned.

PROBLEM IS THAT YOU DON'T KNOW WHEN THE CAR GONNA SHUT DOWN. CAN'T TAKE A TRIP WITH IT. WORRY ABOUT KILLING MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE. BAD THING I'M STILL MAKING PAYMENTS. MECHANICS CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT DON'T HAPPENS WHEN THEY HAVE THE CAR. THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS, SO WHY IS THERE NO RECALL? SHAME ON YOU CHRYSLER. ANYONE KNOWS THE PROBLEMS SOLUTION, PLEASE SHARE.

The car dash lights come on and the car jerks and hesitates, sometimes coming to a complete stop. Almost causing an accident a few times including with a jerk who decided he was angry because the car slowed don in front of his!

Chrysler knows that this problem is rampant in this vehicle, and when we take in to be checked

they say they cannot find a problem.

Bull! This is a safety issue and should be repaired by Chrysler!

We have a an appointment to have the car checked again this week; if I am able to, I'll add whatever they did to address this situation.

So far, they've been less than accommodating, seeing as to how they are constantly attempting to get us to purchase another vehicle from their inventory!

I have had this power surge where all the panel light indicators come on and the sounds go off and the gauges all go to zero and the car stalls for quite some time. At least three times within the last 6 months that it has actually been taken into mechanic. Each time nothing codes and the mechanics drive it and it doesn't do it for them. They can not determine the problem. This is sporadic and gives no warning.

I have stalled in some very dangerous situations but luckily have not been involved in an accident with this problem at this point. This is definitely a very dangerous issue and needs to be addressed immediately. I have been doing a lot research and seeing this is a constant complaint. I do not want this car any longer as I do not feel safe at all. My life or anyone else's is not worth the risk.

The most recent incident being on September 24th, 2014 I had the car towed as I felt it was unsafe to dive it and it didn't want to go over 40mph. The initial diagnosis was thought to be the transmission but after having it taken to a transmission specialist it did not code out as transmission but electrical. I have just had to invest over 2K in this car replacing the PCM Module and the Integrated Power Box... with no real feel of security that this is a final fix to this problem. How is one suppose to sale a car with a good conscience - and I do not want another Chrysler that is for sure. I have no confidence in their product.

Chrysler Corporation needs to get a handle on this problem and any suggestions on where to turn and any compensation on this expense?

Thanks for listening

I have been having a problem with My 2006 PT Cruiser for almost a year now. I understand that it has high mileage...... The bells, and whistles go off, starting with seat belt light then all gauges light up, the indicators drop like I just turned it off while rolling down the road at 30 mph. I have researched this problem, and researched this problem. I have had it looked at by professional mechanics on 2 occasions with no results. Seems that it only wants to act up while my husband or I are driving it!! I was starting to think I would never get an answer. Still really don't have one, but I feel a lil' relief I'm not the only one!

This malfunction isn't just a pain to deal with, it's also very dangerous. Just read a story the other day about a car abruptly stopping on the highway, and killing a small child. MY CAR DOES THIS FREQUENTLY!! Luckily I am a very cautious driver, and feel it getting ready to act up. It's sad to think that the only way to get a recall on this problem is for someone to get hurt..... And I heard on the radio today that a similar thing happened to a woman's vehicle, and she was charged with involuntary vehicular death of some sort. She also served time in prison for the crime..... Come to find out that the vehicle had a recall on the part that malfunctioned, and the woman is suing the manufacturer.

I am buying another car now cause this problem can't seem to be fixed or even diagnosed!!

SHAME ON YOU WHOEVER IS IN CHARGE OF MAKING DECISIONS ON RECALLS!! IF YOU ARE AWARE THAT A PROBLEM EXISTS, HAS EXISTED FOR THE PAST 5-10 YEARS, AND YOU STILL DO NOTHING??? THAT'S JUST WRONG IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD!!

WELCOME TO THE NEW AMERICA FOLKS!! THE RICH KEEP GETTING RICHER, AND THE POOR KEEP GETTING POOPED ON FOR A PROFIT!! JUST SAYING......

There is a solution to this problem. There are way too many people having this stalling out problem. Chrysler should be responsible and we should sue.

PT Cruiser 4 cyl

We have had the vehicle for about 4 months and I decided to visit family in friends about 300 miles away; the car drove as expected with no problems. I drove to a store and locked it with the key fob and returned 15 minutes later to find that I had no power at all, anywhere: no lights, no ignition, no hazards, nothing.

I removed, checked and replaced every fuse in the TIPM and they were all fine. I then removed the positive lead to the battery and noticed that, upon putting it back on, a relay on the firewall would click several times in succession and then trip another relay, which I could not see, down the line. I had my keys in my pocket and was surprised when touching the relay the second time started the car!

As soon as the car started, I immediately began driving towards the nearest parts store and it died, exhibiting the same symptoms, while I was doing ~50MPH. Luckily, nobody was behind me, because I didn't even have hazard lights to warn people of the problem.

Ever since then, it has happened several times: the vehicle loses all power, I remove the positive terminal to the battery, the power returns and I can eventually get it to start.

It goes to the dealer from whom we purchased it on Friday, 7 June 2013. Hopefully they can find the problem; however, after reading all day and night on the Internet, it seems as if this is a major issue with no verifiable remedy.

Chrysler needs to step up on this one and voluntarily issue a recall; I will definitely contact my congressional representatives about this type of dangerous vehicle; I have a 300+ mile journey home and if anything untoward happens as a result of these issues, I will not take it lightly and will seek immediate resolution.

I have an 2006 PT Cruiser w/approx 83500 mls on it, have had this problem approx a yr, happens in very hot outside temps, dash lights flash, odometers bounce, engine loss of power, then engine picks up and continues to run, have had car into dealership and 2 auto repairs shops, no one can find problem, but knows it is there, car stores no codes because check engine light will not come on, seems to be an electrical issue, with computers or possibly a relay, very frustrated, if anyone has suggestions, would love to here them

Frustrated!!!!!!!!!
