CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 is the worst year for PT Cruiser engine complaints. Having an engine light on is annoying, but it's the complaints about the engine shutting-off while driving that really have us concerned.

We helped our daughter purchase a 2006 PT Cruiser from a dealer that is now bankrupt (Key Auto Sales) in March 2008. We have had to replace the heater core 3 times (the first time in June 2008) and it is now out again. It also will not start at times. We replaced the battery in December 2009 and our mechanic says it is not the alternator. Do you know of anything that would cause these continuous problems? Our daughter is a college student and needs dependable transportation but we cannot afford to keep putting money into this one or buy another at this time. As I said before the heater core is out AGAIN and it's freezing. She is having to drive with no heat. We could replace it again (at a cost of $400 +), but what's the point if it will go out again in a couple of months. Thank you for your assistance. Any help you can give will be appreciated.
