So eight months ago the check engine light came on. Just a short eight months after purchase. The check engine code was for the crank sensor. Changed that sensor and it seemed to resolve the issue for the next five months. The check engine light returned with crank sensor again and the cam sensor. Changed both and the check engine light did not go off and problem persisted. When the check engine light was on the car would not go past 2500 RPM or shift into gear without jerking fearlessly. Felt like the engine was in a rodeo. If I eased the gas up to the 2500 RPM mark the tranny would shift into next gear and I would have to repeat this with each gear shift up to 60 MPH. At 60 MPH no matter what I did the car would jerk uncontrollably and refuse to accelerate any higher. After several more weeks of trying new sensors I decided to take it to a certified mechanic who had absolutely no idea what was wrong and recommended I see the dealer. Odd to Chrysler I went were after a half a day they gave me the bad news. It was a short in the main wiring harness that goes from the computer to EVERYTHING! The harness is $1,148 and of the course the labor was another $1,000. Chrysler could not guarantee this would fix the problem entirely as the shorted out wiring had probably damaged the computer and maybe other components too. The rough estimate was $3,000 in total. Needless to say a car that has a KBB value of only $4,900 in good condition is not worth $3,000 in repairs, It is an absolute shame! The car has a strong engine, good transmission, only 122000 miles, is in excellent condition cosmetically and is no more useful than a paper weight due to this problem. It is absolutely disgusting and gut wrenching that our only family vehicle has turned out to be such a massive disappointment. CHRYSLER I HATE YOUR PT CRUISER! I will never buy another Chrysler again.
