The car began leaking coolant about 6 months ago -- it overheated on the expressway and had to be towed to a garage on a flat bed truck. The mechanics could not initially find the source of the leak so told me to keep adding coolant (checking every few days). The problem increased over the next few months. Recently (January 2010) they finally located the source of the problem -- leaking water pump -- and they say the engine will have to be lifted to get at the problem (think mega $$$). Considering the other major problems with the vehicle, they recommend dumping the car for what I can get rather than repairing.
