This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owned a 2001 Chrysler Lhs. While the contact was driving 40 mph, another vehicle did not yield to the right of way. As a result, the contact slammed on the brake pedal and crashed into the rear side of the other vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The contact's sustained minor injuries and bruising to the head and both arms. The contact sustained a concussion. Medical attention was not received. A police report was filed. The contact drove home and the insurance company towed the vehicle to their location where it was deemed destroyed. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 159,000.
Airbag clock spring defect! how many complaints need to filed before NHTSA responds to a major safety issue and investigates this for a possible recall" according to their guide lines, there is no specific number. Maybe they should consider all other vehicles manufactured by Chrysler in 2001, in the same group size but different models, I.e. intrepid, concorde etc. And this doesn't include cars that people had fixed and or, cars no longer in service who's owners are not aware that it is a safety issue because it's out of warranty. Why are all of the other year and model cars from 1998 to present being recalled, except for the 2001 Lhs??" why is Chrysler charging 3X's as much more for this clock spring as compared to all the others that are almost identical. There can't be that much difference!!! maybe I should go on social media and launch my own campaign to see how many other people have this issue and are not aware of this process. This has been going on for me since 2012. Contacted Chrysler numerous times about this issue!
I bought the car in 2005 and recently the airbag light has come on and remains on and I cannot get my horn to work. I also smell gas in the winter when starting the car (have been to several places to find a leak). Visibility wipers are not working properly.
I was backing out of my parking turning my squeaky steering wheel and the air bag light came on. I have almost had several accidents because then my horn stopped when the air bag light came on. So I checked the cruise control that don't work either now none of the buttons behind the steering wheel work. I did my research and it seems it's the clockscrew!! how do I get this part"??"
The clockspring on this model is defective and needs to be replaced. After trying to order the part for repairs from numerous distributors and dealers, it was determined that Chrysler has not released an order to make and distribute the part! this is going on over 2 years for our vehicle and possibly longer for other owners of the same model. This part is vital to the safety of the driver, it's passengers and the operation of the vehicle, because it controls the airbag, turn signals and horn!!! the vehicle is unsafe in this condition and posses a possible risk to the driver and passengers in the event of an accident. Chrysler will not give us any information as to when they will release this part!
