Just like all of the other complaints about this engine, I have had the car for 5 years, (owe 2 payments on it), have maintained it faithfully, changed the oil every 3000 miles without fail. Was warned about the problems with this engine in early May while getting brakes on my other car. I drove to the Outer Banks, NC in May and had no problems.
Got 30 mph on entire trip. Happy that mileage was so good, Thought maybe I wouldn't have any problems with this engine. HA-HA!!
Drove car yesterday and noticed oil light flickering at idle during stops. Engine is idling slower that it used to. Originally 650 rpm's on tach, no 500 rpm's. Don't know if that is a
direct result of sludge or not but light goes out when transmission is in neutral, or I step on gas. My mechanic informed me this is the start of the problem. Over time, (a short time), the oil light will come on more frequently and finally stay on. Advised me to get oil changed (it is due anyway) and add STP oil treatment to thicken up oil to increase oil pressure so I can trade it in before the light comes on again.
I will never buy another Chrysler/Dodge product again, and I informed all of my family members and friends as well about this.
