Shifting mechanism on 2000 Chrysler 300M becomes difficult to move from park to other stick locations. Mechanic says it is a cable linkage issue that is adjustable but should be done by qualified mechanic. Failure would result in inability to shift car.
I have a 2000 Chrysler 300M, purchased September 2000. This particular model allows both an automatic or a manual shift (I've never used the manual shift). On the date in question, I went to put the car into gear, and the gear shift sheared off in my hand. Whereas no one was injured in this particular incident, I do believe that had the car been in motion it could have caused serious injury or death. One does not expect in a 2-1/2 year old car for the gear shift to come off. I believe that this is a serious safety issue.
