This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The car was in the park position with the engine running. When the car was shifted into the drive position, it suddenly surged forward at a great and uncontrolled rate of speed. The car struck the rear side of the recreational vehicle, becoming impaled on it. The recreational vehicle was hit with such force that it was turned about thirty degrees counterclockwise. The recreational vehicle then struck a neighbor's parked vehicle. All three vehicles sustained significant damage. Additionally, both the driver and passenger airbags failed to deploy.
I am informing your office of a possible saftey issue regarding the air bag system. On my car, the dash board began to rip at the air bag component on the passager side of the car. I have brought up the rip to the Chrysler serivce dept but to no avail. Since contact other companies for the repair of the dashboard at the rip, I was told I should report this to your office because they had seen this rip on other vehicles as mine. They said the rip is due to the dash around the air bag was thinner for the air bag to deploy, but repairing the tear around the air bag was not possible becasue of a liability issue. The tear is right on the edge on the right side of the air bag system on the passenger side of the car. I felt when I first noticed a very small tear in the dash over a year ago, that the air bag would either deploy or would interfere with the deployement. Over the year, the tear has gradually increased to the length of about 12 inches on the edge of the air bag system.
