Just bought this V-8 n dealership stated that due to my credit I must pay for a 2 year warranty on the car. I purchase it and now only a few months after buying car I was inside the car (it was in park not on or anything) and suddenly I notice that under the engine a fire has started. I immediately grab my wallet and jump out of the car. The car's engine was on fire so I call 911 and fire dept came real quick. The fire was finished by the time firemen arrived. If that fire had traveled through the gas line I would not be here typing this.
I have car towed to dealership and they take it to check it out. Today I go down there and I am told that a rod shot through the oil pan. They advise me that they need to further go into engine and that they need to make sure that my negligence did not cause the fire (I guess) and that if everything is fine that they will replace engine with a used engine not new one. However, they advise me that in order for them to begin to do this mysterious engine breakdown (which costs $4,200) I have to pay entire amount up front until they determine exact cause.
I am not certain but I do not know of any auto repair place legally allowed to charge a customer all of estimated repair costs (and this is not repair costs and I have warranty for car) upfront without any detailed estimate of what repairs and parts etc... Even if they were to detail some authorization work order with parts and labor they still are not legally allowed to demand all monies upfront are they???
Regardless, I could have died and this was not caused by any negligence or direct act by or from me. This was an out of the blue surprised the s**t outta me incident. These people force me to pay for warranty but I have a feeling they want to somehow portray this as my fault and have me pay for something that should be their obligated burden.
