I noticed my engine developed a very loud ticking noise when starting-up the engine and the sound eventually became a clattering noise after a long drive on the freeway. No mechanic could diagnose the problem and just said it was the normal "Ticking HEMI" sound and just to try changing the oil or using a tune-up additive like Lifter Free.

After watching many Youtube videos and listening to the ticking noise others recorded, I realized the problem was the rocker arm assembly on both the right and left sides, so I ordered the part and a torque wrench from eBay and followed the instructions to fix it by myself after about 4.5 hours of back-breaking work. It only cost me US$500 plus shipping.

If I went to the dealer the part would have cost three times more plus labour (easily AU$2500+), and I saved about AU$2000. Engine runs quietly and smoothly now. The only thing I noticed is the engine block makes a louder clang noise when I start it up (expanding) or shut it down (shrinking), which is normal in older engines.

I paid $46,000 for my car, paying $400 a month for 7 years. A year after I paid it off the engine got hot and blew a piston, had that fixed, next replaced radiator, then in January it got hot and blew the radiator hose off the radiator. Had it towed to my mechanic, he replaced two pistons. it is still making a bad knocking noise and when you take off the oil cap smoke comes out. My mechanic won't work on it anymore so now I am stuck with a worthless $46,000 car.

At this point, don't know what to do. I don't have the money to buy another engine or even fix the one that is blown. I don't have a car and haven't since January, I am 71 years old and have emphysema so walking is out of the question. I only make $800 a month and can't even live on that much less try to buy another car. I don't understand how they can fly a man to the moon but can't make a car to last, especially since we paid so much for what quality?

I thought Chrysler was a good car my aunt had Chrysler New Yorkers the whole time I was growing up and never had a problem. So Chrysler whats the problem you can't stand behind your cars or do you just enjoy taking money from people that trusted you. Maybe you need women to help you to design an engine that will last for a little longer than 8 years. Just call me I know I could help fix your deficiencies since you obviously can not. I hope you enjoyed all of our money you certainly didn't earn. Is this called elder abuse? I believe it is. Do you treat your mothers like this? I hope not, God will get you for this.

Purchase 2006 300C 5.7 hemi three days ago. Tried to start in a local parking lot --horrendous clanking. banging in engine, luckily(?) would not start. Towed back to dealer. Mechanics are talking about total engine failure. I will update when full report is complete.

Update from Apr 20, 2016: Local dealer said valve seat had shifted or let go. Valve went into the piston, engine cylinder totally destroyed. Total engine replacement in the works (new engine). Luckily two days off lot, all covered under warranty. Great car, but no recommendation from me after this and reading all similar complaints.

Update from May 17, 2016: 30 days in dealer shop. warranty insurance balking at engine dealer had ordered. Ordered through their source. Picking car up tomorrow 5-18-16. Waiting to drive.

Update from Jun 22, 2016: car driven two days; stalled, had it towed again to dealer. Mechanic decided it was intake manifold which had been taken from old, blown engine and used with new engine. Replace with new manifold. drove car again for about 2 days, stalled again. The purchase dealer (Ford) decided to take vehicle to the Chrysler dealer/mechanic. They immediately said problem is in fuel tank; and a fix from Chrysler no cost regardless of miles (new fuel tank). Another four days in shop. This probably not related to engine failure but I bought this cat 9 weeks ago -- and have had it out shop about 5 days (not consecutive). BUYER BEWARE

I purchased this vehicle brand new! I also purchased a extended warranty that they claimed they could not

Locate. I had 59,000 miles after owning it for 9 years. There was no indication of any problems. I drove to my destination and left my automobile with the valet. Before I could relax in my room, the valet called and informed that there was knocking noise coming from my engine.

I had my vehicle towed back to Stockton, to Stockton Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram.

I was informed I needed a new engine!
