Transmission problems started out intermittently just before 30,000 miles and are now happening on a scary regular basis, every 100-150 miles. There is a recall tag for the shifter that is supposed to be a software/firmware change/upgrade........except that the dealer tells me (two different Chrysler Dealers) the fix for it is not ready yet for the 2012 version.
So.....meanwhile I have to wait and subject myself to unexpected and now frightening episodes of the car going out of gear at speed with reduced transmission capabilities. Warning indicator comes on and states service transmission. Turn car off and restart etc. Does not allow to shift or move into park or any other gear. Has happened when parking. Has happened at speed causing me to avoid oncoming and passing traffic. Engine light stays on glowing yellow.
Previously the light would come and go, and now it stay in the on lighted full time. Visited my local Chrysler dealer last week after having again the trans cut out and the service writer stated that they still do not have a fix for this. Was told to continue driving. I am really getting to be afraid to drive this car now as I worry about; 1). being stranded 2). causing or being in an accident with it 3). or worse a serious accident where my well being is in peril let alone someone else who is innocent to avoid me on the road when the vehicle unexpectedly flips out with this transmission/shifter problem again.
