Bought the car as a 2nd owner, and the vehicle always maintained at dealerships by 1st owner. Purchased vehicle with 140k miles. Noticed right away that the headlights did not EVER turn off. Didn't matter if the light switch was moved to the "O" marker or if it was a bright sunny day, the head lights were always on. The fog light switch DID work at that time. At around 150-155k the fight lights completely shut off never turned on again. UNTIL just this week.
Literally out of nowhere, on a bright sunny day, the fog lights magically started working again - BUT when they work you can't turn them off either.
Vehicle is currently at 190k miles and has a 7/10 rating mechanical and body wise.
The other night driving to work (no bad weather, perfectly dry and normal night, with the temp was around 45°f) and out of nowhere ALL the lights, including my driving lights (not good seeing as it was at 10pm on a road with no highway/roadway lighting) just shut off. Interior (dash, center consoles near radio, and even dash cluster) was gone. I had to pull my way into the break down and put hazards on and pray no one smashed the back of my car while I tried to figure out what was happening. Took about 10 mins of me hitting (more like punching) the light switch which my tiny female fist of fury to get it to turn back on.
I have not the SLIGHTEST idea what happened, NONE. All I do know is ever since this has happened I have no control over turning the lights on or off again UNTIL the fog lights decide that they want to start working again. Then the only way I can get them to shut off is buy turning the light switch to the off/"O" position about 15 times until my damn car stops yelling at me that my lights are on.
So that's a nice one!
Yes I know the car is high mileage and a little elderly now. BUT it's mechanically sound and is a daily driver that does 300 miles a week. So this car's been a champ. But I just wanted to give a heads up on the light situation.
